Don't "care" per se. I just enjoy reverse-engineering the hustle if I'm able to figure it out. It's like watching late-night infomercials and knowing exactly what "tips" the self-made billionaire will give on real estate. Or even like solving a riddle, somewhat, based on the technicalities or minute details of the little provided info you are provided during the setup.

For the record, I was shopping for a cd-rom drive for my libretto, and the listing came up...

...I already have a tracking number for my drive so believe me I'm not entertaining any ill-advised ideas. :)

I take it that you have one of the earlier models? How is it running for you?

Actually it's a new work in progress... I just picked up a Libretto 100ct (P-166mmx/64mb) at the last MIT Swapfest of the season. I got it relatively cheap because it had no accessories except the standard port replicator, though it was purported to work (decommissioned gov't equipment). I was on eBay to find the AC adapter, original floppy drive (the only bootable device besides internal disk), and a PCMCIA cdrom with DOS drivers. I can then possibly shoehorn Win2k on it, insert a PCMCIA wifi card and PCMCIA usb card, and have a cheap-but-capable subnotebook for travel. Even with Win98SE it'll be pretty good. :)

He has another listing that claims it works with ANY laptop. VERY similar verbiage, just replace Libretto with <Dell, Compaq, Acer>. Also it calls for $9 in parts.

So it isn't something unique to the Toshiba.

I personally think it is a link to a free account online, such as the XDrive. You upload files, then download to the laptop.

The guy is also selling information telling people how to disable startup menu items using MSConfig.

I have to hand it to him...he is honest, just a little...slick. Like a used car salesman.

Hehe, there's a fund already started for a "group buy", if you are interested in a donation commitment ;)
