you can text via google voice using just data
It doesn't integrate with the regular text app, so you have to set it up to send an email when you get a text and then allow that to push notifications to your iphone. Then you'll know when you get a text, then you boot up the app and reply. At least that's how it used to be... I haven't tried the new "official" google voice app so it might have proper push notification and "always on" support to not need the email setup.
Are you talking the Android one or iPhone one? Android one has had push notification for a few months now. You can also reply to the email directly when you get a text - don't need to see the email and check the app.
I just read on engadget or some other site a day or two ago that a GV app was approved. Not the official google one but it looked nice.
