So, what's the REAL truth about MB grounding ?

I just had to use insulating washers on both sides of a MB to get it to post. I don't usually use any. Over the years I've heard an equal number of yes's and no's when it comes to this subject.

Does anybody know the answer to this mystery ?

Should a MB be grounded to the chassis via it's mounting screws or not ?

Thanks

Depends on the board - some do and some don't. You can usually look at the board and tell - if one or more of the holes has traces going to it (top or bottom) then it probably needs to be grounded. (I had a board a few years ago that was like that) If you don't see any traces, you probably don't have to. The board I had that required it definitely required it but I've seen some of them that will just ground through the power connector if there is no chassis ground.

Almost all new boards coming out don't require anything special as far as grounding.
