So, what's the link between *z and pr0n, anyway?

I just thought to myself: why are warez/gamez/mp3z/etc and pr0n sites so interweaved? I mean, you cannot find a *z site on this whole, expansive Web that doesn't have pr0n everywhere. Is it easy bait to get banners clicked and nickels earned, or what? I'm all confused on this one. Can anyone offer an explanation?

because porn banners pay real money (something like 17cents a click) and don't care who links them. When you are running a site that will often suck bandwidth equivalent to anandtech you need a way to pay for that bandwidth. Remember bandwidth isn't free.

Cause warez distributors have no ethics.

BTW - Not everything is bandwidth, since a lot of warez use some form of free disk space and leech off other provider's bandwidth. They just want the money.

I used to be in the warez scene, but not anymore (And been clean for quite a while). The inclusion of trojans and viruses just isn't worth it.

Remember, warez izn't free. YOu pay for it in the form of trojans and virus.

If you like having SubSeven, BackOriface, Hack a Tack, etc.. on your computer, be my guest. Its better just to shell out the money and buy a decent program. Besides, how many programs do you actually use on a regular basis anyways, not all that much.

yeah, i think its cuz porn banners pay well.

also, im willing to bet a large percentage of people looking for *z are pre-20s.. hence porn is also on their minds.

OK, so there are a *few*. But those are quality *z sites, where all the links work and the software is worth the download time. BUT, those sites don't appear on search engines. :(

And to clarify on the bandwidth issues. Warez sites don't use that much bandwidth because they don't upload the games onto their servers. They use services such as X-Drive, Juston, Homestead, etc. to store their goods. And the reason the two categories are such interweaved is because there's obviously not much professionalism/class to them. There aren't many boundaries/rules for warez sites for obvious reasons.

I mentioned MP3Z in my original post. Ah, MP3Z. :) Before Napster, it actually took some skill and patience to find illegal music online. :D
