My W7 machines will stay W7, my single W8.1 gamer machine will probably get the upgrade soon, after some of the bugs have been ironed out. No hurry for me, I don't have a lot of time to fiddle around trying to learn another OS (3rd in 4 years?)

It's really not that different in many ways. I learned the basics in the first couple of days. From an end user point of view (not a network administrator or developer), it's kind of like Windows 7 or 8.1 with a new skin.

But yeah, lots of bugs.

My mom was hard core w7 until she got a look at 10 and then she wanted the upgrade. her registry was messed up and the upgrade imported her problem to 10 so I clean installed 10 wiping out her drive and she's very happy with it. She also runs classic shell to retain the 7 look and feel. 10 is a better OS and once you've used it for a few days you will not want to go back to 7.

I don't get it. She got a look at 10 and liked it better than 7, but then runs Classic Shell to get the feel of 7 back? :D

I run Classic Shell on my W8.1 machine, I don't like W8.1 per se. I do like the responsiveness of it vs W7, however, which is why I'll give it a try. Because MS DX'd WMC, I'll leave W7 on my HTPC, but if it really turns out to be decent, I'll eventually upgrade my business desktop.

Well, and that's what I mean... reading other's experiences trying to hunt around to make user and privacy changes. I have a hard enough time with W7... :D

The menu system on 10 appeals to her and classic shell just gave her that little bit extra that she was looking for so it was win win in her eyes. Her 7 had registry issues and moving to a clean install of 10 corrected them all for her.

Everybody has different opinions, I actually like 8.1 and 10 better then 7.

End of the day Win7 is now dead to me, I've moved on and don't regret it at all.

I still have my Linux distros which I like a lot as well.

Windows 7 is the new XP.

I will never get tired of 7 and hope it stays around for a long while. I personally (on only my computers can speak on behalf of) never had a virus / spyware, or a blue screen. It has been by far the most stable, and mature OS I have ever used.

On the other side of the coin, I am seeing its age, and W10 is mostly acceptable with exception to the privacy concerns. W8 / W8.1 has a few bugs that are just unacceptable. Such as the inability for me to play an old skool game MOHAA without getting a blue screen, and other hardware detection / config issues not present on 7.

8.1 is fine with MOHAA, sounds like an issue with your PC, http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/CompatCenter/ProductDetailsViewer?Name=Medal%20of%20Honor%3A%20Allied%20Assault&vendor=EA&ModelOrVersion=1&Type=Software&tempOsid=Windows+8.1 .

Side note: I never had any gaming issues on 8/8.1, 10 so far has been fine, but still testing my huge games list.

Also nine times out of ten it's normally drivers or overclock that causes game issues, which is not the fault of the OS in question.

I have upgraded from Windows 7 and all went clean and smooth. I want to do a clean install (I love clean installs!), but until now I had no problems with it, and the interface is great (except some ugly icons now and then) and it runs faster than Windows 7.

Acer i3 ~ 2 Ghz, 4 GB RAM.

Did a direct upgrade from 8.1, and added Start 10. Everything works as it did, and the look and feel is now Win 7, but with fewer user controls. My main objection is the lack of font changes and metrics as part of Personalization. At least I have not been able to find it.

So, I use it now and then for training and giggles, but go back to 7 for daily work. I can select from discreet boot drives in my mobile rack, so nothing is traumatic. Here's how it looks to me:

I don't run Windows, but if I had any inclination to, Win10 killed it. I will literally do without $software_product before I install Win10.

Question and observation:

I'm looking at the last 20+ posts in OS and it's all "Windows 10 did (insert bad stuff here.)" I remember a lot of those posts from the intro of W8, but many of those were general complaints, not necessarily OS failures, and I came in after W7 intro'd and was pretty well polished up, so I don't remember the initial problems with W7.

Is W10 really a barrel of monkey nuts, or... and this is aimed at you old-timers who have seen stuff like this before... is this just par for the course with a new OS?

newb and out of it for a while here, i have 3 PCs running stable Windows 7. I've just reserved my copy of Windows 10 for my gaming PC. If/When i get it, should i upgrade over to it? I mainly web browse, and play CS:GO on steam...

Its par for the course with anything new, especially tech. An OS that will be used by millions if not billions will glitch up way more than any test environment. It just is.

Windows 10 is, in default install form, a near complete surrender of any privacy you might have thought you had.

No interest in upgrade. I still consider new MS OSes as beta till at least a few years after release. Some are simply duds that I will not even touch, such as windows 8. To me, Windows 7 is the latest usable OS from Microsoft. For my windows machine I'll be sticking with that for a while or until I'm forced to upgrade. For my main every day machine I use Linux. I only use Windows for gaming.

Everybody has their own opinions but there's no denying that 10 is the future of operating systems. I resisted 8/8.1 for years until I finally realized that it had superior underpinnings to 7 with complete uefi support which I needed for my hardware. Once I got 8.1 pro on my desktop I couldn't switch my laptop to it fast enough. When 10 became available my laptop was first, then my tablet and lastly my desktop and I have no intentions of going backwards as I like 10 better. Perhaps one day MS will understand that the 7 menu system is the most preferred of all and return to it as standard. Until then classic shell will be on everything I use.

To me Win7 is dead RIP, end of the day I have no issues moving forward and using anything new, same goes for my Linux distros.

I don't get hung up on an old OS ie Win7, nothing lasts forever.

Btw I consider a lot of Windows usable in their time accept WinME being the only exception.

Side note: Trying out more of my games on Win10, just tried SWGEmu which is working great, happy Win10 gamer here.

Yes that NSA style datamining everything that you do is a real deal breaker for me, at least until a 3rd party anti-spyware app comes along to stop it, and who ever does that is going to make a fortune.

I had a new tower put together for me by my techy grandson (I'm computer savvy but not a geek, so my language is basic - the same as my computer's). Anyway, tetrabyte of this and that and away I go. Came with Windows 7. I was used to Windows XP and as some of my favourite software didn't work on 7, but some stuff I wanted only worked with Windows 7 upwards i.e. Windows phone up/down loads Sat Nav etc I thought it was worth having the upgrade. I also thought I'd upgrade to Windows10. Don't want to be thought a dinosaur. The layout didn't seem strange as I have a basic windows phone. After all apps are just programs by another name aren't they? It all looked a bit unnecassarily busy on the desktop but I took my time and found everything I needed. Didn't like the new 'apps' that replaced my old programs that didn't work any more but hey, if you want progress you have to persevere. Wireless fibre optic broadband stopped working along with a few other bits and pieces and I was feeling too streseed so in the middle of a panic attack I reverted to Windows7. Then I found the Internet problem was the router's fault not Windows10, so here I am a few weeks later with Windows10 again. It's DREADFUL. Slow (despite my super fast fibreoptic broadband and tetrabyte thingy). It doesn't seem to like Firefox as much as I do and the whole thing is cumbersome and non user-friendly. So I'll give it another week, but right now I'm leaning towards going back to Windows 7 (can I do that twice?) and I feel a bit like a Luddite, which is not my style. One of us, Windows10 or me, is a failure.
