So what's the deal with the outpost.com P4s?

I'm in the market for a 2.4b processor and noticed that many people recommend getting the chip from Outpost.com (fry's) over NewEgg.. What exactly is better with the chips that Outpost have?

Thanks!

from waht ive read, its a multiple vid cpu
multiple vid cpu=many operating voltages or something...a range between 1.475 and 1.525 i think it was

but thats not important heh
hwats important is that they are mad overclockers
(i think you should get the oem, as a few ppl ive seen get it from there got the tray and got the multiple vid ones)

Some people who buy 2.4b's from NewEgg are still getting B1 steppings instead of C1's which are much better overclockers. Everyone is reporting receiving C1 steppings from Outpost.com

The 2.4 I got from Newegg last week is a C1. 🙁 Which actually is fine, I'm not OC this machine for now.

Some people have been getting lucky, they have been getting C1's, but some people still report receiving B1's. The B1 stepping is getting quite old these days since the introduction of the C1 stepping. More than likely you will get a C1 ordering from Newegg, but there is still a chance until all the B1 steppings have made their way through the retail and OEM channels.

Don't want to insult anyone, but I think it should be B0 stepping (never heard of B1 stepping)

Another reason to get C1 is the Prefetch bug on all Pre-C1 cores. See Duvies and Thugs Benchies on same speed cores. Basically you get more oomph per Mhz out of a C1 and above.

technonut talked to them about that ~ hopefully its resolved.

the problem is the chip bouncing around inside the oem container w/o any foam to hold it in place :|

these are different oem containers then other ones ive seen before.

yeah i bet!!! 16 bent pins?

who's had the most bent pins so far? 🙂

maybe there's a correlation between the number of bent pins and how far you can overclock...

the more bent pins = better overclock 🙂 🙂 🙂

someone should take a poll of this 🙂 🙂 😉

I bought a couple P3's back in the day and I would guess that 3 or 4 ROWS of pins along one side of the processor where bent almost flat. Needless to say I called and bitched to the reseller who obviously could have cared less. Never bought from them again, never plan to either.

Although they did turn out to be pretty good chips for overclocking once I got all the pins straight!

This last one I received had 30+ pins bent out of place... took me forever to get them straight... Ya hate to send it back, because it may be "THE ONE."

now this is sounding like "the matrix" discussion... which btw comes out soon WOO HOO!!!
