So what's the deal with FAFSA, can anyone get it?

Anyone can get a FAFSA. You can get it online or thru the mail 😉

you'll just get offers for student loans. i doubt you'll get any grants or anything like that, you might get scholarships if you're smart. suck it up.

You will get unsubsidized student loans and the parent plus loan. If you want grants and other free student aid, it helps if your parents are sub-$60k a year people

Let's say my father has a 6 figure income, do I have a chance to get some?

How old are you? If you're 25 or older, it's all about your income, and your income alone.

My parents combined have a 6 figure income and I got 2 grand in unsubsidized student loans. I suppose the government thinks that just because I'm a dependent my parents are going to foot the entire bill for college .. silly government.

Don't have to be 25, but as soon as you apply to grad school (post undergrad...so med school, law school...etc) you are an independent and you are not required to give your parent's info. And if you are like most of us college kids, your income was probably not very high. So than it is based on YOUR income...but you have to file for your taxes as an independent. Also, the amount you get must be approved by the school youare going to and it has something to do with the budget for that school. For example, my friend is getting 18k, while I am getting 38k. Yeah..whoohooo for me..I will have double the loans to pay of in four years...you wanna know how much...just ask.

so the best thing to do after high school is work for 7 years before starting college, unless your parents are rich AND willing to pay for your school

jackpot?
haha. there is no lottery.

if you apply, you'll only qualify for loans. you will get no free money if your parents make that much. period.

I'm in the same boat and it sucks having to take out $15k in loans a year.. :|

And I can't even claim independent status unless I turn 25, get married, become a veteran, or my parents die. :|

What if my "guardian(s)" make under $10k a year (I'm being serious).

You'll probably not have to pay a dime for schooling then. They also take into account what you make yourself as well.

If the formula works out in your favor, you'll get a $0 EFC, which means that you're not expected to pay anything towards your tuition. However, it's also up to the individual colleges to give you an aid package, which may or may not equal 100% of your tuition.

anyone can get financial aid, even if your parents do have a 6 figure income.

True, but for FAFSA, they primarily look at income. The only financial aid I get from FAFSA is a unsubsidized loan for about $2800.. hardly enough to pay off schooling, and I still need to pay it back anyways.
