So...what's the deal with buying clothes online??

Well, I'm moving up north to upstate New York and I realize I have no winter clothes. I went to the mall and realize that over here stores don't start selling winter clothes until mid-September. I really wanted to get some shopping done now, and this J. Crew Final Sale was too good to resist (and stuff I was bookmarking kept disappearing so I had to act fast!)

I am really afraid about buying clothes online though. How are they shipped? Can they get damaged/dirty in the shipping process?? What happens if in item ships damaged...the sale text says "no exchanges or refunds" but surely that can't apply if an item arrived damaged?

Just wondering what others' experience is ordering from jcrew.com. Oh, and to satisfy your curiousity, here is my shopping list.

there's nothign wrong with it. They won't get damaged or dirty because jcrew wraps them in plastic individually. Only thing wrong with it is you better get the right sizes, or you'll end up going to the store anyways. It just helps to know your size at a particular store.

Well I shop at J. Crew often, and I know their sizes are pretty consistent and I adjusted accordingly (XL for sweaters and coat, oversize pants with extra inseam because they will shrink.)

No big deal if you're comfortable with buying clothes you've never tried on before...the benefit of a company like J. Crew is that you can return it in store if you don't like it.

If you know how their sizes run, there is nothing wrong with it.

But sizes tend to vary widely, even among the same clothing lines.

For me, it's been hit and miss. I usually stick to the outlet/clearance sales at online shops.

yeah you should be fine though. Only problem with returns that I've had in the past is that it takes a long time to get your refund back. They won't give you cash or credit back in store, they have to mail it back to the company and you get it in like 2 weeks. But that was like a year or two ago so that may have changed.

Everything from JCrew is wrapped in plastic and paper, with card supporting the collars. Small packages will be shipped in lightweight paper packaging. Bigger orders will be shipped in boxes.

BTW, I paid full price for that pea coat last year. I don't regret it, it's money.

only problem I've ever had with buying online is in terms of sizes...

a few weeks ago, I bought 5 shirts from Eddie Bauer, all in the same size. 3 of the shirts are practically like tents on me, and the other two are really tight. it baffles the mind. also had similar experiences with Old Navy. but most stores have good return policies, so I'm only out a couple bucks for shipping.

I've been buying from J. Crew's online store regularly for the past 5 years. I know how their sizes run and am comfortable not having to try on the clothes. Their shipping has been absolutely perfect.
