You forgot there will be no "Ultra". It would have to be named something like 7800gts, gtr, gto, gtx2, gtx-R.... but not Ultra.

G71 for Nvidia, R580 for ATI. Supposed to come out in Q1, late January, early February. I think they're all 90 nm process too with high clock speeds. Hopefully they won't be as expensive as the 7800 GTX 512.

So... a "refresh"... What does this mean in terms of FPS numbers at 4X AA and 1600 x 1200? A 50% increase or thereabouts? Any speculation here compared to say the current 7800GTX??

Seemed like the 512 version of the 7800 was the "refresh"... But as I said, I've been out of the loop and I'm not really sure what refresh means... Same cards/architecture on a smaller die = higher clock speeds (with less heat) = refresh?

Yes but the replacement for the X1300 is suppose to run on 80nm and early Feb release. But ohnestly who cares?

The 7900 has been rumured to have 32 pipes and run at 700mhz, but the same thing could be said about the R520 a year ago.

Not much is going to change with the R580 over the R520, aside from there being 48 shaders and probably a speed boost in both core and mem. If Asus can push out a 700/800 (core/mem) card, I would guess that the X1900 might do 750-800/850 from core tweaks and revisions. It has been rumored that the R580 will have GDDR4 and run at atleast effective 2ghz but thats the same kind of rumor as the 7900

I thought R580 was going to be DirectX10 or whatever they are calling it these days compatible.

So it will still probably be titled under the 7800 series of cards? I'm wanting to buy a 7800 GTX 512mb but if they're going to come out with something still under the same monicker than I'll wait.

No, it won't. R600/G80 will be the first DX10 compatible cards.

Well, hopefully it'll be able to run COD2 and FEAR at 1600x1200 with 4AA and 16AF.
