So, what's hot in the crazy world of FAX MACHINES?!

get an all in 1 printer / fax / scanner. Dell had them for < 100.

Except for I wouldn't buy a Dell (rebadged Lexmark), the inkjet cartridges will kill you $$$$.

I use the free eFax service for incoming faxes (save ink and paper), and have a basic fax machine for outgoing faxes. My laser MFP doesn't have a real fax function (just PC fax); that's why I need a separate fax.

My fax machine has a built-in cordless phone, so it serves as my land line phone too. Sharp UX-CC5500

Dell = Lexmark = bad

RossMAN is on the money.

I would look for a laser if you can live w/o color (consumables are cheaper).

If you just want really cheap, get a Canon for cheaper inks.

Buy a modem and use your computer as a fax machine, with good software it's as easy as checking your mail for new messages.

To show how long it's been with my current fax machine, i didn't even know they now use ink cartridges!

I don't think a fax modem is going to work around here, we need this thing in the kitchen where it is easily accessible. I don't believe we will need color either.

we have a brother all in one (fax, printer, scanner, photocopier) and i like it a lot.
Beat me to it! 🙂 Brother has a few nice laser printer/scanner/copier/fax machines in its MFC line that would do you well.

If you're looking at serious quantities of paper to be faxed, you will need to be looking at a sheet-fed machine instead of a flatbed unit, though you can get one which offers both if you see scanning in your future.

Brother MFC-4800 Laser Printer/ Copier/ Scanner/ Fax = $199.99 USD

If something that can handle more quantity is better, try:

Brother MFC-9700 Laser Printer/ Copier/ Scanner/ Fax = $349.99 USD

Extended warranties...I'd turn 'em down, lasers tend to be fairly bulletproof.
