So, what's EVGA going to do with the step-up 7800s?

I'm wondering if evga is going to have a 'refurb' section, a la ATI, or will blow out their boomeranged 7800s via a retailer partner. I'm guessing there will be a non-zero chance of $200-ish refurb 7800GTs in the very near future.

Thoughts?

If I were them, I'd keep a good portion for RMA replacements for broken cards that they need for warranty purposes.

Their options are basically to do that (and probably take them as a tax writeoff, too!), or resell them as refurbished products to make up some of the difference.

I'm not sure keeping a large stock of refurb 7800s 'just in case' makes much sense on the books. That'll translate to a pretty significant unsold inventory line item. Investors don't like inventory that lingers around on the books very much. It's easier to provide a replacement card from a new series than to keep a warehouse full of rapidly depreciating old hardware.

Experience with pulling off just in time supply chain management has pretty much convinced everyone that keeping warehouses full of stuff on hand is a lose.

So, I guess I answered my own questions. Refurbs galore. The only question is from where, and for how much.

EVGA has a Market Place section on their website where on occassion that put Recertified Video Cards for sale.
