So, what's a good massively multiplayer online RPG nowadays? I used to play one back in 1997 or so called The Realm (it was by Sierra) and haven't played one since. Any that have PvP incorporated into the game, too? What about that Star Wars one? Preferably one that isn't too heavily moderated, too.

Oh yeah, I'm looking for mainly completed games, no betas or alphas. When I used to play The Realm, it was pretty annoying with the player wipes... but it was fun stealing people's names and impersonating a clan leader and disbanding the entire clan 🙂 Fun times...
 
Check out City of Heroes, for something a little different. I haven't played it, but it looks interesting.
 
i used to play EQ a lot. I have tried a few others but couldn't get into them.

last one i played was horizons. Man that was a crappy game.
 
oh man. the realm was funner than a motherfvcker. i remember after losing my character before the first big update i decided to come back as an elf and camp that sh!t up to the max.

Whoa, you played The Realm too? Cool. I played it way before there were elves or anything. There was just a small village and it was pure Jumpers vs. Anti-Jumpers 🙂 I did all sorts of pranks in the game... from stealing clan leader's names after wipes and completely disbanding large clans to making up lies about what the updates did (once i said that the update let GMs upload viruses to your computer if you act bad... people were so pissed that they started PM'ing the GMs so much that they call crashed out of the game). I was a friendly asshole 🙂
 
Eve Online if you want something very different from all the other online games, very pvp oriented. It just turned one year old a few days ago.

Some will say its the most boring online game ever and some will say its the best online game ever, its the kind of game you either love or hate.

Stay away from EQ, Sony is running it into the ground. Star Wars: Galaxies would be headed downhill too, if it hadn't started at the bottom of the hill to begin with. Personally am waiting for World of Warcraft, it looks really nice so far.
 
its an oldy but a goody, its called real life. game play is difficult and its difficult to respawn but its very interactive. but no, seriously stay away from MMORPGs. i had a bad experiance with shadowbane some months back. i didn't realize i had a problem until one day it became aparent that i cared more for my guildmates than my family. when i quit it was like having all of my friends die at once. i still miss them, its sad really.

me too, its pricey, but promises large battles over castles in a forthcoming update in june, which is all im looking forward to

me and a few friends were in the beta, kinda fun
one of them preordered it, that lasted a week or two untill he got bored and went back to final fantasy
