Well, it's 92 degrees here (105 with the humidity) and I'm dying here. I want to go out and grab an air conditioner, but I don't know what size or brand I should be looking at. I just want to cool my bedroom, which is 14' X 20' (280 sq. ft).

Please help, us Canadians can't take the heat! ;D

Hey! You're from Kitchener too?

Sorry i can't help you... i've got central air :p

But you could go to Sears and talk to those folks, i'm sure they could recommend something for you.

Moralpanic,

Yup, lived here all my life. I was blessed with central air all of my life, and I move out (into a 3000+ sq. ft. house no less) and it doesn't have central air. Erg.

Icemanjer,

It's a heat wave I tell yah! Supposed to get up to 98 degrees (w/o the humidity) tomorrow.

I just did that myself to cool a room of about the same size. Got a 5800 BTU unit. Doesn't suck that much juice and only paid about USD$180. for it. Just grabbed a Kenmore at Sears but I didn't really care about brand.

Go to Sears. IMHO, no other mass-market chain has a better major appliance department. Yes, they do work on comission in that department, so the tend to know more about what they're selling than a place like Best Buy. Lots of experienced "old-timers" staff the appliance dept. Kenmore tends to be pretty reliable stuff, nothing wrong with it.

if you buy one of those "window" AC, can you use it without plugging it to the windows (my apt window is too small to fit those things there). i mean, just put that thing on the floor or whatever and make it a "portable" AC?

will it cause any harm, etc?

haha, it will actually heat the house as opposed to cooling it if you do that. :p

Yeah, it has to blow air outside. You could get a portable one (it comes with a nozzle that you can stick outside a smaller window), but they're about 4x the price i think of a regular one.
