I'd buy MIG's if i was running the show. i wouldnt want to rely on the US for parts.

No, Isrealis did the changes to the Iranian equipment. Isreal wanted Iran very much to resist Iraq at that time. Iraq had resorted to the chemical weapons offenses which pretty well neutralized Iran's numeric superiority. If Iraq would have been allowed to deliver the same weapons into Iranian cities, not just to the front, then we'd all seen a rush by Iran to a dirty nuclear weapon or worse.

Israel has been a big supporter of Iran in terms of weapons technology throughout the reign of the Shah and the 1980's and 90's. Thier are still a lot of black market transfers going on./ They saw it as a counterweight to the Arabs.
