As you can probably tell, most of the people here are pretty knowledgeable about current/past events and about politics. What made you first interested in politics and why? The one thing I liked about the election was that it brought a since of curiosity to some and led them to become interested in politics.

Oddly enough, Michael J. Fox's character on Family Ties got me interested in politics. That's how I got started off being a Republican. That, and about the same time, my U.S. History teacher told us to register as Democrat, in order to vote for the weaker Democratic candidate in the primaries, and then vote Republican in the general election.

He was a cool teacher.

Besides B&B, I was interested in philosophy and government in college. Never been overly political, as far as parties go. Just a big interest in ideas, policies, history, ideology and philosophy. I tend to think when you have interest/knowledge in history and philosophy, political parties seem like small potatos. I view politics as a sport, and I'm like a spectator. In the big scheme of things, American Democrats and Republicans aren't all that different. Just the details....

Must be the nature of politics and politicians.

Seems so. I see all these stupid people around me supporting Bush "jus cuz" and because Kerry "is a pansy".

To be 100% honest I only became interested in politics after reading posts from a lot of people on the SWG forums about a year and half before that game launched.

After a few discussions about such things as free speech, US Constitution and the 4th Amendment, Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the violation of them, as well as business and how it figures into government leadership and policy I came to two incontrovertible truths.

1. A lot of people are nothing but sheep whom are easily manipulated by government through their prejudices and are completely willing to accept and justify virtually anything as long as it meets their ends.

2. I'm not one of them.

Hence here I am.

My own treatment in the Netherlands as well as what others experienced in Europe, Australia, etc. I used to think that Europe was 'enlightened' and a tolerant place, but that was shattered. I started reading about it and just kept up with all news then.

The mis-informed Lefties here in P&N have gotten me more involved in politics. After all, if these tools are a representation of the Democratic party, we all need to stand up and take a close look at what is happening to society.

The fact that I saw America, prior to this election, heading in the wrong direction. I felt for my beliefs, I needed to go out and vote. I wanted to make sure I knew who and what I was voting for. This really got me involved in politics.

Alsmost exactly the same for me....except my U.S. History teacher didn't tell us who to register for or who to vote for. He was one of the most balanced teachers I ever had. He would present both sides of an issue and lead discussions.

War....reading about wars in history and how it is closely tied to politics. War is just an extension of politics where you bash your politics into the other guy's brain.

Similar to me. Majored in sociology, minored in philosophy. That stuff just fascinated me.

Always been good at history and government in school. But I was like your typical teen and held absolute no interest in politics publicly. I did watch a lot of TV news and occasionally newspapers and magazines, so I guess the interest was there deep down though.

But ot until second year of college did I get really interested in it. Took a few Political Science classes as I lost all interest in Computer Science and it stuck.

I can't stand politics but I like to argue and politics and religion are the 2 best topics for argument.

As a kid, my school district went on strike. They were one of the higher paid districts in the state at the time, with great benefits. Competition for jobs in the district was high, but they still weren't satisfied. That got me interested in politics, and turned me into a "conservative" at an early age.
