I recently sold a used DirecTiVo unit on eBay (link), which ended almost immediately with a Buy-It-Now purchase. Paypal payment was made immediately, and I shipped via UPS the next day. The guy gets it today, and sends me an email that states the unit smelled of smoke when he plugged it in. He now wants to send the unit back and said he expects a full refund at my earliest convenience, all without any discussion.
The problem? I clearly stated in the auction that the unit worked fine the last time I used it, was stored properly, and is now being sold as-is, with no guarantees by myself. The guy obviously has decent feedback, but I feel he is in the wrong. I sent an email back to him stating what I put in the auction, and not to ship it back yet until I figure out what I want to do.
Now, I don't want negative feedback, which is probably unavoidable at this point, but it's the principle of the thing. Also, I've been burned before on seller's charging back through Paypal, and even though I shipped to a confirmed address, I didn't ship through Paypal via USPS, I went to the local UPS store instead. I know that being the seller, Paypal are complete bitches when it comes to that, as the buyer can basically get his/her money back at any time they wish. Why I keep using Paypal is beyond me.....
So what should I do now?
