So what processor does my laptop have?

So I'm playing around with my laptop and the processor listed in the specs is "Intel Dual-Core T2080".

Since it didnt say "Core Duo", I was assuming that this was like a dual-core Pentium-M or something.

I loaded up CPU-Z and it lists the processor name as "Core Duo T2250" and the code name as "Yonah".

But in the processor specifications a couple lines down, it says "Genuine Intel CPU @ 1.73GHZ".

So is this a Core Duo or not? Kinda confused here.
 
There is no such thing as a dual core Pentium M. The T2xxx series is a Core Duo (Yonah). The T2080 should have a 1MB L2 cache with a 533MHz FSB and operating at 1.73GHz. If you really have a T2250, then you should be happier since it 2MB L2 cache, a 533MHz FSB, and operates at 1.73GHz. Nothing special, but you get the extra mb of L2 cache.

CPU-Z says I only have 1MB of cache, so I'm going to assume that it is indeed a T2080.

But why would it say that it is a T2250 if it is only detecting 1MB of cache?

I also really like the play on words at Best Buy. The cheap laptops with the T2080 is listed as "Pentium Dual-Core" while the more expensive laptops say they have "Core Duo" when in fact they are the same thing.
 
It might just be a misreading by CPU-Z. CPU-Z only reads what the CPU-ID shows, so that could be mislabeled as well. The T2080 might be manufactured by disabling 1MB of cache (such as if it was damaged) on a T2250.

As for the Pentium Dual Core, Intel might just be using it as a stepping stone between Celerons and Core processors.
 
It's really a T2080. My laptop has one as well. While it has a nice sticker saying "Intel Pentium Dual-Core inside" on it, CPU-Z gives the same info: a T2250 Core Duo but with 1 MB.
I am not sure how much it suffers from having only 1 MB though. Its SuperPi 1MB score comes close to my amd64 4000+: 36 sec vs 34 sec. SisoftSandra puts it a bit closer to the Sempron 2800+ @ 2.2Ghz I once had.
 
To the best of my knowledge, there never was a Pentium Dual Core mobile processor. They had desktop chips sure, but I don't think that they ever put out a mobile version. The Pentium M was out when the Pentium D was in the desktops. Now they have the Core 2 in both desktops and laptops which makes comparisons easier.

early this year the Pentium name was used in the budget "Pentium Dual Core" line

its a core duo (unless im mixing things up) with 1mb of L2 instead of 2mb

i had one, briefly. didnt use it much but i wasnt unhappy with it. i had the T2060 @ 1.6ghz
