hi.

i'm looking at building a new system, or at least mostly, sometime before the summer.

definetly going back to AMD and Nvidia, tired of driver drama no wide resolution support from ATI and some intel headaches and annoyances which were never an issue when i was using AMD.

i will be keeping my monitor (wide screen HD format LCD), my HD is still good, relatively new SATA drive, my DVD Burner is still good.

i am looking at a new case with P/S, mother board based on NForce 4 (or higher whichever is the newest chipset), and Nvidia PCI-E card.

all relatively high end for maximum gaming performance. so most likely FX line CPU, NForce 4 chipset motherboard, a single 512 megs Nvidia based high end video card (dont want to run 2 SLI), 2 gigs of Corsair twin-x (or equivalent performance /reliability) ram. video card MUST have a built in native support for wide screen resolutions and HD format. so ATI is pretty much out of question, i dont know about the latest ones but my 9800 Pro did not support wide formats and gave me a hell of a lot of drama about my resolution. switched to a cheapy Nvidia for the timebeing but i am looking at the high end Nvidia cards for upcoming system since they do support my monitor.

not sure about sound. i think i might try out whatever comes integrated into the M/B, if its good i will leave it as is, if not go with the latest creative labs soundblaster.

same for networking, will most likely use integrated gigabit to connect to router or cable modem, i dont think i will need to get a seperate network adapter.

case with P/S. not sure, but i think i was looking at 420-450 watt P/S, with a decent case that has some extra sound dampening in it and can run quiet even when open.

motherboard. most likely NForce 4 with integrated gigabit, sound, PCI-E and of course has t osupport latest AMD FX and up to 4 gigs ram. high end proven long time reliability / performance track is a big +

when assembling my system, although performance is a relatively high priority, headache free rock solid long time proven operation and compatibility take prescedence. so looking for components / brands which have a very good track record, and picking out highest performers out of those rather then concentrating on absolutely biggets performance for the buck.

now with all that, i am planing to do this all within next 2-3 months, and i am wondering if there is any new hardware that will go retail very soon that i might want to wait for, or perhaps there is some new hardware coming out within the existing lines which will bring down the prices enough to make it worth waiting.

be specific with recomendations please. i know i could just research all this for myself, but that can take countless hours, which i dont have, hence i came to ask here first and see what the tech people think.

thank you.

I didn't read all that, but the x1900 series should be out soon.

Also sometime in the near future the the 8800 series cards will be out.

...you mean, like last week, when they launched? :p

I think you mean the GeForce 7900s (due out, maybe, in March sometime). The 8XXX models should be the NV5X-based cards, which probably won't be out until late this year or sometimes in '07.

OP: Please do at least a little bit of research. There are similar threads almost every day from people looking for purchasing advice. In terms of platform, the only thing you even might consider would be AMD's upcoming Socket AM2 (basically, Athlon64s with DDR2), but many people are not expecting much in terms of a performance boost. It's pretty hard to go wrong with most S939 motherboards and Athlon64 processor combinations right now. Video card choices depend mostly on budget, and have also been discussed quite frequently.

awesome, thats something i actually havent thought about but will look into. thanks for bringing up the mice.

speaking of wireless, any recomendations on a good wireless headset ? i would really like to do away with that cable my logitech came with.

i'm specifically looking for the one with the big cushioned comfy headphones and a flexible mic rather then anything with the plastic clips that wrap around and hurt your ears over prolonged periods.

so i did some research, and i am looking at Nvidia 7800 GTX with 512 megs + AMD FX60 processor + 2 gigs of corsair twin-x (whatever fastest version will be supported by the M/B) but ....

i cant find a good m/b for it. i checked MSI , gigabyte, few others, all seem to have boards that support UP TO FX 55 and/or FX 57 CPUs, but the FX 60 are not listed.

any specific suggestions for a NForce 4 based board for FX60 ?

It's a feature not a flaw.
