So what made the EU suddenly hungry to sell arms to China?

The EU is seeding WW4 if they arm the red Chinese. Its pure madness to sell them high tech weaponry. I'm pretty perplexed as to what positive angle could be spun by this recent change of heart. Sure the U.S. has let a few shipments of jet engines through, but none of these amounted to anything that was not already available to the civilian market. Selling high definition radar and logistics infrastructure to the Chinese is only going to hasten the reds in bringing down the blues in Taiwan.

don't worry, their red lasers will never be as powerful as our blue lasers. Ask anyone who watches Star Wars

most likely reason is money. Big market there that is mostly dominated by Russia.

Or....they want to arm China so that it will take on the US and then after the US and China tear each other apart, the EU will emerge as the new lone superpower ;):p

nuh uh, its China that is the monkey. it will watch from atop a tree while the two tigers tear each other apart. we definately know one of the tigers is the USA, but the other tiger could be either islamic terrorism or EU. thats to be determined. remember, the Chinese think long term. We think a few months ahead.

I believe that France performed war games with China right before Taiwan's elections (intimidation?).

It's about money and complete disdain for the future of Taiwan. Plus, there are probably a few people in France who would be happy to see the US and China come to blows to allow themselves to help fill the void (just like they did in Yugoslavia in the '90s!).

better sell them now and make good friends, instead of waiting for them to develop their own and be not so good friends.

Do you have a link? The last thing I heard about this issue was a few weeks ago when the EU decided not to sell arms to China. When did they change their minds?

then it must bother you more that we are funding it. they pay in Walmart gift certificates

Russia is China's top arms dealer.

our dollars goto china for cheap crap --> they pay in our own dollars to buy arms --> they invade and take back their cheap crap

1. money
2. better weapons (more profit ->more R&D -> better weapons)
3. influence
4. snubbing the US.

Its funny to see all the EU haters talk about this though. One thread they make fun of France's miliitary, the other one they condemn them for selling high tech weapons t china.

Which one is it boys? Affraid of French weapons?

Even Israel was selling something to China, some awacs planes. Not sure if that deal went through or did the US block it.

You sell them the tech, hence you are fully aware of its capabilities and how to defeat it. It could also channel funds away from R&D developing their own that you may have a more difficult time coming to know and overcome later? They can obviously advance their own programs by using the tech they acquire, but espionage, reverse engineering, and keeping planes for awhile ;) accomplish much of that anyways and you don't get paid for it. Besides you can use the money from the sales toward building your next gen stuff that puts it to shame? </speculation>

Man compare China 40 years ago and now. A HUGE DIFFERNCE. China is fricking rich. I don't think China will take over Taiwan. I think they are trying to get the Koreans.
