I know tons of BS chemists I went to school with and are working for places like Abbot and raython etc in southern ca and never seen above 60K and are either planted on a HPLC/ICPMS all day or manage a lab for the "fortunate" ones.

I was a synthetic organic chemist for about 6 years, I was a product engineer for 3 years, and I've been a product formulator for about 10 years.

Not to boast, but I have almost 60 patents and have commercialized more products than any of the PhDs in my lab.

I'm fortunate to have found a job that matches my skill set well.

I tell people my major is Statistics, and they respond so your a math major. No I am not a math major, I am a statistics major.

Double major in CS and ECE, paying out of pocket and living on my own!

I already pwn CS three times over, I just need to put up with it to get the shiny piece of paper.

ECE is pretty fun though. I could pick that stuff up myself as well, but it's nice to have access to labs and all that.

You can learn CS yourself by downloading free software. You can't exactly download a $10,000 scope to teach yourself ECE

It's not a major at mine. The advisors just slap a label on you and recommend a few courses you should take.
