So what is this stuff anyway?

OK, I really know what it ism but I have been gone a while too. It looks like coming back is a trend right now...

After spending a couple of years running around the world, it looks like I might be back at my normal job for a little while. At least another 6 months or so. Maybe I can get back into what I enjoyed about computers, including this stuff and this place...

What's with all the oldies crawling out of the woodwork? Is there something in the water? 😕

Nice to see you again, IJump. 😛

Heya IJump! Good to see you around, grab a PC or two and start a crunching, if not, good to have you posting anyway! 🙂

It's sort of like Hotel California. Once you are here, you can never really leave.......you may go away for awhile, but they always seem to come back home. 🙂

I have a nice new laptop at work and one desktop crunching, plus two laptops at home so far. I will have at least one more desktop at home crunching tonight, maybe two.

What do I crunch on? Well let me see. I am a network admin so I crunch on whatever I want to.. 😉

I'll get the specs on some of my stuff and post them on here. I basically have access to about 650 machines. I have had various clients installed on almost 200 machines in the past, hopefully I can get close to that again sometime...

six hundred and fifty machines? 650???😎 man that's alot of machines!😀 ,even 'just' 200 running is a heck of alot of crunching power! 😀

Edit - Well, I know SoB is one of them.

I ran SETI for a while. I did a little over 27,000 units in SETI 1 or the old SETI or whatever it is called now. I am only running SoB right now. It is just the one I am interested in right now. I figured it wouldn't hurt leaving the SETI stuff in my sig.

Yep. I am in a pretty unique position to have that kind of power. I just go in a new shipment of over 170 dual core 2.x GHz machines. I will probably put the SoB client on a lot of those as I am putting them out into the building.

And I will be again soon.... 😀

My goal is to get up around the production of some user named otlg25b. 😉

Here are the specs on the new computers I will be crunching on:

Dual Core E2180 (2GHz)
2 GB DDR2

Beyond that, they are pretty typical. Most are used in labs and will not be used for 75% of day. I figure at least 16 hours of uninterrupted crunching per day. I am ghosting the first six as I type this. Hopefully there will be at least 13 computers crunching away before I go home today, the base computer and 2 sets of 6 ghosted computers. I am getting all excited as I type....
