So what is this oil going to do with hurricanes?

Hurricane season is coming up, and I moving to Pensacola, FL for grad school. Even though BP is getting things under control (they're trying to pump so really viscous stuff into it and seal it with concrete), this thing is going to be felt for a while. What are hurricanes going to do with this oil? Will we have flaming rain? Acid rain? Makes me very nervous...

I doubt it impacts Hurricanes, other than the fact that clean-up workers will have to get out of the way when they form.

Schadenfroh is right. Likely nothing. Possibly blow it around a bit. Hurricanes exist on a larger scale than the oil slick at this point. There IS an effect, albeit a quite small and local effect, on sea surface temps.

There have been a number of tests, including the ones described here:

Don't wishcast a storm your way. You really don't want to experience it, as much as you secretly think that you do.

Unless a Hurricane funnels water up(it doesn't), there won't be any Black Rain. The darkness of the Oil might cause increased temperature and thus intensify Hurricanes, maybe. What will most likely happen is that Storm Surges could deposit Oil all over the place, perhaps far from shorelines complicating Cleanup.

Time will tell.

Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!

They're no closer to getting this eco-disaster under control than they were the first day. In fact, it's not speculated that BP has been grossly underestimating the amount of oil being pumped into the ocean...Why? Why the bottom line of course. The more oil that is spilled...the greater the fines and clean-up costs.
