There are so many forums I visit that equate Stockton to hell on earth. What is so bad about this place? I really know nothing about it except that it's a medium-sized city somewhere in California. Please explain.....

I don't think its that bad, but I've only been there a few times. All I really remember is that in stockton there are two malls across the street from each other, and they both had the same stores.

Hahahaha

Well let someone from CA tell you.

It's not so bad...but the crime isn't that great...there are quite a few hookers who will wander out into the streets...have to worry about hitting one.

I knew a guy who was stuck in traffic and one came over and he didn't even respond to her and she kicked his tail light out....

But if you like hookers....

it isn't that bad. It's just in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do.

Sounds like you're thinking about attending UoP. Go visit. I wouldn't have a problem spending 4 years there to go to school, but I know others that would.

Thanks for the replies so far.

What I've heard about it is that the crime is bad, it's flat and in the middle of nowhere, and that there are lots of trailer parks and rundown houses. In the pictures I've seen, it looks like a decent place. I do know that you have to see a place with your own eyes to really understand it, though.

Hence...the hookers.

Crime is bad. Here's stats:

Text

Stockton is higher than all the national averages...property crime is high, lots of auto theft.

Just as with any city...there are good and bad areas. I personally wouldn't want to live there.

As I recall, it has a port. Shocked me when I saw it.

Yeah the Sacramento river is pretty big. They can boat to it...not sure whether it's a branch of the river or what in Stockton.

But you can go by boat from there all the way into San Pablo Bay and out by San Fran to the Pacific.

Culver City has some VERY nice homes. Some areas are a bit run-down but I think home prices are driving people out.

The others are pretty so-so except for Compton of course:p

Pretty much, don't expect much more than a modern day cow town. It's Central Valley California, and that pretty much describes most cities there. Stockton's better than Manteca, tho!

There are places in Santa Ana too. I remember talking to a post master once and he told me they go crazy because those places that are on the border would put the other city in their address as to not be thought of as a crap factory because they're in Santa Ana.
