So what is r590 besides 80nm shrink?

I have heard some sites say it will use GDDR4 as well as clock speed boast on the core or is it just mainstream part. It would make sense if r590 is to combat G71 / ATI already stated that the r520 was not meant to combat the GTX 512 making it the r580 job so what does this leave for the shrink? This would also make sense because of 1450/1550 memory they are using on x1900XT(X) when it should be easy for them to make it to 1600 on the high end like they did with x1800xt OC. It looks like the refresh wars have just begun if you ask me.

I was thinking the r590 would be released sometime in june/july as a refresh of the r580 refresh. :p Or maybe it's gonna be the PE version they're holding to compete with the high end g71. To replace the r580 series with a yet newer line up just 1 or 2 months from now would be crazy.

I think I read it on b3d. That's also where I learned the r580 will have 48 pixel shaders like 5 months ago while most people here were still thinking of a 24 "pipe" Ati card.

What? we've gone from R580 to R590 talk aready  i'm burnt-out. Time to actually play some games for awhile :)

on a side note, I think the G71 is late, G70 has already been out 6months, and usually nVidia pollutes every new ATi release with at least a cannon shot of a new driver across ATi's bow, which has'nt happened.

well, they filled the GTX512 Backorderds so people wouldent cancel their orders. Which is a really sneaky bitch in my eyes.

it could happen with r590 since it would come out in same time frame and its memory controler does support GDDR4

Im curious. Im thinking about upgrading to an x1900 crossfire setup (only thinking). Anyways When RD580 borads come out Im thinking about geting one along with a x1900 crossfire master card. Then upgrade to another x1900xt or xtx later in the year. However, does anyone know if the R590 would be compatible in crossfire with the x1900 crossfire card? Also would it reduce the preformance of the R590 to the level of the crossfire card?

so does R580 and R520. Would be great if R590 did have GDDR4 though.

I think you're confusing the facts here. The speculation was that it would PERFORM like a 'true' 24 Pipe X1800, which it does, not that it was going to be a 24 pipe card.
