Ever since the fleshlight debacle every time I see shortspanishguy (or whatever his name is) post I wonder...

What is it with short guys and bodybuilding?

In my entire adult life I've known only two guys who were really, really short. The type where if you had to describe them you'd say "Oh he's about so tall..." and everyone would know EXACTLY who you were talking about. They're both in the 5'3-5'4 range I'd guess, & both weighed shockingly close to what I did at 6'2. Shortpanishguy makes three for three.

Is my sample size too small, or is there a pattern here?

short man syndrome? overcompensating for lack of height?

in all seriousness, they have done studies on this.

i know about 3 guys who are really short and they are some of the most intense people i have ever met. Whereas a lot of taller guys i meet are more laid back. In addition, at my gym at work, i'd say almost 50% of the guys there are under about 5'10.

I think in this day and age society puts a lot of pressure on shorter men i guess

Your sample is too small. I see lots of short skinny or fat guys around my height (5'5).

I know precisely six 5'-5'4" guys and none are bodybuilders. Three are wrestlers, but they're very lean.

they lift all those heavy weights that makes them vertically challenged

if they would've spent all those young years playing basketball or something where you jump alot, they may be taller

Two are 25, one 33, one 30, one 28, and another 27. Most of them are actually quite scrawny and have been since I've known them.

I think I may have a better explanation...

If you're short, it's easier to be a body-builder because your muscles are shorter. It's easier to pack a bigger punch in a smaller muscle that doesn't have to pull as far. You have to consume less protein to gain the same effect.

Plus, short guys are the ones always picked on at an early age because they were easy targets. They're trying to get ahead in the physical world.

While I'm definitely a nerd, I'm not your sterotypical nerd build. I'm tall and fat. I never had too many problems in physical fights. I used to provoke them back in the day.

Not to discredit the "short man theory" because I believe it's true, but short guys just tend to bulk up easier becasue their muscles are shorter. It's just a genetics thing. Taller/longer limbed guys have a harder time getting that "built" look to them.

Longer limbs will have longer muscles. The longer the muscle the harder it is to flex it and make it look really large. Part genetics, part physics.

Tall, fat, and provoking fights = nerd. I bet you have long hair in a ponytail and provoked fights over Star Trek.

Short hair with a military cut. I quit provoking fights long before I got into highschool, and it was all about who threw sand at who in the playground.
