We all know how badly AMD needed a killer product to stay competitive.
Barcelona seems somewhat promising on the server front, which is supposdely where money is at. But still, the desktop is far from stellar at this point (though we will have to see what kind of change faster memory+new chipset/bios+higher speed would bring), and what concerns me the most is the cost of manufacturing, crippling AMD further in the price war against intel.
While I would much rather have AMD alive and kicking, we cant completely rule out the very real chance of AMD not making it past this product cycle. Should that ever happen, I dont think it would be the end of the competition in the CPU segment. There has to be someone that is willing and able to take over all that technology and infrastructure. What would be the most likely firm to merge with (or buy out) AMD? Which company would make the most fierce competitor to intel? Cast your vote and share your ideas here
