Drummers...

I broke my throne this weekend (yes, actually broke a friggin' THRONE!!!). Literally snapped it in half (and I only weigh 175).

So I need a replacement before this weekend. I was looking as some of the Pork Pie ones.

The nearest music shop is about over an hour from where I live and it's NOT on my drive home, so I'm just gonna buy one through Musician's Friend Sight-Unseen.

Anyone here have just a killer comfortable throne they would recommend to someone?

(For you non-musicians/drummers - Please keep the throne/toilet jokes to a minimum, kthx ;) )

MF has pretty good customer service in my experience, I would assume the 45 day satisfaction guarantee extends to thrones as well if you're not happy with whatever you order.

You said "What I ORIGINALLY stopped in here to ask...before I got sidetracked..."

If thats what you "Originally" came here for, than thats a long time to get sidetracked, seeing as your join date is 2000. :)

Jolly, I'm not sure how much you're looking to spend... but I can tell you that the "Roc-N-Soc" is very comfortable. I used to have a regular old bare bones circular piece of garbage on top of a of metal. Switching to the RNS was a wise choice :p
It does have cutouts for where your thighs would be, and some guys don't like it because of how it makes your legs a little bit lower than normal. It would be better to go to your local music store (Is the one an hour away a Guitar Center by chance?) I'd go there and just test them out. It's where I got mine. I had to try a few and sit behind a few sets before I bought it. But yea, that's my 2 cents.

The most comfortable thone that I've used was made by Gibralter. Also, don't waste your time on the La-Z-Boy style throne with the backrest, just adds to the pricetag, but you know that.

Roger, check this out

Our show is on Nov. 10th. I'll keep you updated!!

I'll definately check into those! Have fun at that Nov. 10th gig and be sure to post up some pics. We've got another show in Tucson this weekend for this Halloween/Masquerade party of about 6-800.

I love big-kid Halloween party's!! All the chicks dress up like dirtly little whores for Haloween!! It should be a good time.

Yes, drummers are usually quite full of themselves. And alcoholic womanizers.

Back to the OP, I'm not sure what it's called, but the throne that's not round, more triangular shaped, is pretty damn comfortable.

Second on the Roc-N-Soc. It's the most comfortable one I've ever sat on. They make the Gibraltar ones too. But I say go with the back rest. The day I got my Roc-N-Soc, I sat on it for the rest of the night. I'm 205lbs btw.

That's the second time I've heard Roc-N-Soc thrown out there and you're saying that Roc-N-Soc is Gibralter's OEM??

That said, I'm probably gonna either get the Roc-N-Soc Original or the NRX Nitro Rider. I'm thinking the Nitro Rider feature could be pretty nice but the bounce is not something I'm used to.

On the other hand, my back is sometimes a little sore the day after a long show and I think it's because of the way I tend to get into it while I'm playing plus the lack of any shock absorption.

I've thought about the nitro. I have the Original and don't tighten the seat down all the way so it spins. Again...get the back rest. Especially if you have back problems.

OK, so here are my 5 front runners:

Pork Pie Round
Roc-N-Soc Nitro
Roc-N-Soc Original
Roc-N-Soc NRX Nitro
Gibralter Hydraulic Moto

PORK PIE:
I'm a little partial to a round seat because I stand up sometimes and don't like to check to see which way the seat is positioned before I sit back down (I'm like broon and let my seat spin freely also). It looks sturdy as all hell!

Roc-N-Soc Original:
Also sturdy, but not sure about the bicycle seat.

Roc-N-Soc Nitro:
Has the nitro thing I'm interested in but comes up short on height adjustment (I like to sit up pretty tall behind the set).

Roc-N-Soc NRX:
Combines the seat height of the Original w/ the gas shock of the Nitro. Based on the picture the bracing look a little shakey. It goes from double to single bracing half way down. That worries me.

Gibralter Hydraulic:
This thing seems to be built like a tank and looks as though it could double as a jack-stand for your car! Again I'm partial to the round seats but this one looks liveable. Hydraulic lift adjust isn't quite as tall as the two manual adjustables. Not sure if it will have the 'bounce' like the nitro gas ones either....

I never dreamed I'd ever put this much thought into a friggin throne!!!

Those all look pretty good. The only thing that has prevented me from getting a nitro seat is I've seen too many chairs where the nitro breaks. Other than that, the "bounce" feature would be kind of cool.
