Don't just tell me to subscribe! And don't tell me this is the trend since economy is taking a down turn! I doubt the forum will ever become free again even if our econ start doing better. But anyway..that is another topic.

i don't know, a lot of other computer sites are popping up lately, so Anandtech isn't the only one gaining all the money. Internet advertising is WAY down, and a lot of other sites don't have to pay for a forum that has 100,000+ members. Pop-up ads are on other computer review sites too.

What I'm more dissappointed about is the "new features" and if they are really so good or not. The coupon stuff i sort of understand, except AT is sidestepping a stupid one I think. AT is what got me into Hot Deals, which then i went onto f@wallet and other sites which had coupon codes. I'd really like to see a decent server upgrade, it isn't worth it for just subscribers to get the l33t connection, and non-subscribers (or people i'd send links to) complain about the slowest loading site to the history of man. I frequent other forums which receives as much traffic as AT does, but do not require money to get a fast connection (it just naturally slows down a bit during peak hours, but nowhere near AT level)

In the past I used an ad stopper on Anandtech before I subscribed. The adblocker dramatically sped up the experience. Personally I think all the cutbacks are BS too.

Yes, I probably have no idea what kind of work it takes to build a site like Anandtech, but then again that was Anand's choice. I was a reader when he was still using Geocities. He has definitely gotten too big for his own britches these past few years.

Ohhh, and let's just say I don't exactly stay here for the articles anymore.... as well... they aren't quite upto snuff anymore.

btw: I wouldn't be surprised if this thread is locked...

I'd venture a guess that this forum has less than 40% of registered users as active. The other 60,000 probably registered and never came back or registered a different account. Not saying that 40,000 isn't a lot, but let's be realistic about the actual number.

yeah, but when i go onto other forums, i'm citing their numbers too, as i have no way of proving how many people actually frequent the forums. AT traffic is mostly lurkers i'm sure (hanging out in hot deals) so we can't account for that either. I'm just really citing the number online at the same time for this forum (500-600 at peak) is less than other forums i know - avsforum, about 900-1000 at peak, and they include pictures of members, and a picture hosting site for their threads. And comparing it with AT traffic, we should be breezing through -

I have been reading Anand`s site off and on since he had his pic up. I think the growing pains are kind of interesting. The articles did drop in quality for awhile, but then again its probably tough to decide what to cover, let alone write about it.
Gone are the "overclocking the Celeron 300" days. Things sure have gotten complicated.
Still, for getting answers to computer questions (even newb ones like I had/have), there are some great folks in the other forums that are willing to help a person out. And for that, I don`t think subscriber status is required.
As for coupon codes, I can find them if I REALLY want to.
Babe pics can be found anywhere.

I find that is happening less and less.

AnandTech still is one of the better review sites. It's a great place, and the forums are filled with great stuff.

This is one of the few places I venture forth online anymore. This, lurking on Ars OpenForum, and once in a while, spymac forums. (One or two others that are rather small so I won't mention them). I used to be a mod of PC Gameworld forums...and it could be hell at times. Now they just kind of stink. There's no real activity, nothing interesting anymore...

These forums have been in a flux since before most of you joined. The Tech Forums are still great and the HD Forum and this Forum were just added to keep us (yes I'm including myself) who visit HD and ATOT out of the forums that are important. HD and ATOT just take up Bandwidth.
