So what happens when a smooth talker goes to buy a car?

Like a new car from a dealership. I bet he/she smooth talks a sales person down to the lowest price. I wanna see what the outcome of such a thing would be.

Nope, they just transfer the smooth talker to the manager or the supervisor. Car salespeeps are trained to pick out smoothies and bump them to the guys with the ballz and brains.
They either jack the smooth talker or run him off so he doesn't interfeer with the sheep that are in the buying process.

Yep. Better way is to get the loss leader or take the ad & get another dealership to come close to the price.

"Smooth talkers" don't negotiate at the dealership. They do it over the phone, in control and with their information sources in front of them.

Sticker Price: $23,464
My Price: $14,580 + TTL = $15,870. :)

This was on a brand new 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 last year. I went in told them what I wanted, they pulled it up, I test drove it, and cut a deal within 30 minutes. Damn I love newbie salesmen. It was so funny, I signed the paper with some price or another (after rebates), then he came back with a lower price than what I signed for (before rebates). I think I actually got the truck at the dealership cost minus the rebates. Ended up talking to the manager before we drove off and asked him why he sold it so low, he said they had to teach the salesman a lesson. I am still so proud of my truck...

Do you think he is still working there? ;)

Probably so. But, the salesperson is probably eating hot dogs instead of steak for his meals.

So, from your story, YOU didn't actually pull anything over on them, right? They were just willing to eat it a bit on the price to kick the new guy in the nuts. Yeah, you got a great deal, but apparently not from anything YOU did. Or am I reading this wrong?

I thought only the sales managers had any say in the price at all. Sales people can't do jack, at least that's what I've experienced from all the dealerships here in California. The managers are smart and won't get ripped off.

Slick230 - That is not the full story, I did all the talking and bargaining, he was actually confused at one point. That was just cliff notes. Yeah I smooth talked, just had to be there.

fyleow - The salesman went "over" the helmet, he told me the price, then went and checked with management.

real salesman know how to handle a "smoothtalker"...they dump them and dont look back...then a rookie usually ends up dealing with the guy
