So... what happens if I flash a kt266a BIOS into my kt266 board?

It'll probably just kill the mobo outright, won't it?

I'd try it, but I'm not upgrading my motherboard for another year (Epox 8KHA). I figure it's worth a shot to see if the tightened timings might help the board's memory scores without causing horrible instability.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Yes don`t do it,why not just flash it with the latest 8KHA bios instead.

Why not? Because the point is for pure experimentation.

I'm saying that when I'm FINISHED with my current mobo, I might as well try flashing to the 8KHA+ bios, just to see what would happen.

if your hoping it increases performance you will probably be disapointed... any bios improvements that will help the performance of the 8kha will be in the new bios version made for the 8kha

even if the 8kha+ bios would work in the 8kha board (which i doubt it would work) but even if it worked it certainly wouldnt increase performance

the reason is because the kt266 and kt266a are totally different chips... and something that will optimize one of them wont always optimize the other

If you DO try either

1. use a command line flasher, and have the original bios handy to put back BEFORE you reboot if you get a fail
2. have a mate with an eprom programmer handy! ;o) It is likely they will be incompatable as soon as it gets to the POST.
