Besides playing on the internet, playing a few games, some hw in excel or word, AIM, etc. Is a new computer really worth the price?

My gf just bought me a new computer, and I don't know what to do with it. I was content with my Inspiron 1100.

Other than games and upgraded hardware for watching DVDs or manipulating very large images, beats me. Games are the only thing that tax my system in any way (other than XP itself, of course). This has been true for the last two computers I've owned as well, games and large images.

Webmastering (html. php, MySQL, ftp, other)
Database & report writing (MySQL, Crystal Reports, other)
Helps me with language translations & foreign currency conversions
Project Management (Open Workbbench or MS Project)
Presentations for clients (Open Office Impress or Powerpoint)
Gradebook on 168 students (girlfriend's) + lesson plans
Research (libraries of the world, access to university research papers, etc.)
Digital camera (download, file, work pics)
Graphics stuff (business relates, school related, other)
Several dedicated special business applications you never heard of so I won't bore you with the names
Filing system for all the above, with easy backup (DVD burner, mirror hard drive)
