So what did the AT admins get RIGHT in this switch to VB?

There are a number of threads complaining (often legitimately) about problems with the new forums. It should be expected there would be some teething problems. But what do you like about the change over?

I have to commend the designers on this skin. It's easily the cleanest VB skin I've seen and is amazingly close to looking like the Fusetalk. They made wise decisions with regards to sig images and avatars (the selection stinks, but not as bad as custom avatars).

Are you happy with the new forum?

I think it's great. Minor gripes here and there but it mostly works well! The skin is great. I think they could have made it more space efficient but it looks closer to FT this way.

Thanks!

I can block all images and avatars from my profile instead of with adblock like I used to do with FT.

It doesn't timewarp like crazy.
I can search for threads and actually find them.

Now that its actually running (it was kinda choppy a few hours ago) it seems to be faster, cleaner, and less error-prone than FuseTalk.

Honestly, I never liked the latest flavor of FuseTalk.

The search works? I'm going to have to check that out. You get so used to not having something...then: BAM!

The switch was rather painless. Although up and down like a yo yo this morning, they pushed hard to get it at least up. They got it done in their time frame and made a skin that doesn't make me want to hurl (as most VB skins do)

Beyond that I have gripes.

I like that there are no timewarps. I like the password import function - I think this was pretty neat and convenient and commend them for that.

A lof of the bitching is about change, day one stuff. I think after a month we might be able to start making real comments that should help make the forums better.

Personally I'd like the old avatars back. I'd like some selection with the themes. Perhaps a more usable front page? It seems like it's really large compared to FT. But these are just aesthetic things, I like that functionally things are working.

I wish the button icons were removed (see Post Reply, Quote) buttons, to make it even more clean, otherwise I agree with the skin (alternating posts dark + light would be beneficial too).

I was surprised how fast they worked

It was working. I think they disabled it due to the large influx of people logging in and trying to use everything at the same time.

This is so big and blocky I have to view AT in a much larger browser window. I feel like this is the Forums for Dummies version.

After a few hours on this software I absolutely love it, well done to the AT guys. Sure there are a few tweaks to be made but this is so much better than FT. It's fast, slick, good looking and functional.

:awe:

You try to do a complete switchover on short notice with a volunteer staff and see how smoothly things go. ;) Yes, there will be issues and we are trying to address them as fast as we can.

Been there, done that, not fun, not bad... but with a forum one twentieth the size.

I certainly appreciate the magnitude of the task, that's why I wanted a thread of positive things about the switch. I think you guys have done a wonderful job, better than I expected certainly.

Seems way faster, and it looks pretty much the same. No complaints here!
