So what did I screw up?

Installed the board(Aopen MX4SG-N) and all the goodies. Plugged in all the cables and fired it up, everything was working fine. Went through the post and got to the system disk failure message (no OS was loaded yet) opened the CD drive to put in the XP disk and everything shut down. Now....nothing. Will not power up when I press the start button, the CPU fan just gives a twitch....BUT....If I remove the 4 pin aux power connector from the board and then hit the Go button the system comes on (CPU fan, chassis fans and power supply that is) but still nothing else, no beep no display nada, just a bunch of fans running.

Soooo....... what gives?

Any help would be much appreciated...

interesting... what system are you running, and what is ur PSU rated at? Also, are you running a mobo with the newer 24 pin ATX connector and a PSU with a 20 pin ATX connector?

so what do you have hooked up to your computer(hard drive/ optical drive wise, and what type of connectors-PATA<-(check jumper settings) or SATA)? This is a really interesting problem... Try powering up w/o the CD drive plugged into the mobo.

Samsung 52X CDRW, Seagate 40GB PATA HD. When the machine went through the initial post, before it went belly up, it detected both drives correctly....I have tried to power up with all the drives disconnected...nothing. I even switched to another ATX power supply (known good)...same result.

Can you get into your BIOS at all? If so, you might wanna check some of the settings. RAM settings and boot priority is the only thing coming to mind now...

Not at all. Dead as a paper weight when the 4 pin connector is attached. When it's not attached the only thing that comes on is the the PSU, chassis fans, and CPU fan....No display or any hint of going into post. ......It's weird...

Does it make any beeps? Sometimes, if somethings wrong, the BIOS will be able to give a few beeps, which will give us a few answers.

Check your RAM placement as well. I've never known it to cause this severe of a problem however.

I'd double check your front connector panel...

Man, this is a really wierd problem, if you find the answer, make sure to post it here. I'd like to add it to my website.

Defective MOBO.... perhaps a jumper is missing somewhere... i've seen some cases where a cmos reset jumper will cause a machine to behave like this until it is placed in the default setting. thats all i got.

I agree with adwilk

Do you have a manual for the mobo? If so look through it to see if a jumper could be wrong or something plugged into the wrong connector.

Start from scratch

Make certain the mobo is not shorted out to the case in any way and that bios chips are seated correctly
Unplug everything, Remove and reinstall ram CPU,Fan,psu plugs, front panel connectors, video card, something may not be seated correctly.
Try booting up with only video card or onboard video whatever the case may be, no HDD or CDROM
If you can get to the bios then, check all the settings see if anything strange is enabled or disabled

Good Luck
