After pretty much ruling that my SB Live! card is defective, and tomorrow's a holiday, and I probably won't have a new one (going with a Value) for a week and a half or so, I'm debating on whether I should make "the switch". I still need to do minor things, like switch my printer over and put in my CD-RW, but other than that, it's a fully functional machine. The only thing I use sound for is games (Counter-Strike mainly), though I did play a little bit of The Sims last night, but missed out when someone was ringing the doorbell. My only real fear is that I'll get a new card and I'll have the same problems (deleting my DVD drive while installing the hardware).
So this sort of brings up a question: how long have you gone without sound? Previously for me, it was about a week, because the speakers that were shipped, the fuse was blown the next day. A few months later, the same thing happened!
