So What Can I Do Here?

I have 2 120mm fans that are driving me nuts. They are antecs that came with the P160WF. I was going to do the volt mod but am apprehensive, because ive heard some bad things. A fan controller doesnt seem like its worth it (was looking at the vantec nexus 3.5") because it can only lower it to 7-9v which is supposedly not that much lower.

Short of taking them out (front and rear), what can i do? Blarhadjhfjdhfsjfhsdjkf.

Thanks so much.

Its kind of a repost, but not all the way. Btw, thanks for the help with installing and purchasing the 7000b AlCu.

Try 7 volts. It's cheap and simple. The fans shouldn't have any trouble starting at 7 volts so that should be good. A fan controller would be better but only if you plan to ramp them up during heavy usage.

Keep in mind that there's no such thing as a free lunch; fans that move lots of air are noisey. The only wild card is the bearing noise in your fans. Ball bearing fans tend to make more noise than sleeve bearing fans but they have a longer life.

Lots of choices to make.

Good luck.

That's about it. We've written tomes and tomes on this before, and you will find the posts buried in pages for prior weeks and months. Motor and bearing noise offers the chance that some slight lubrication with an appropriate bearing grease may make a fan significantly more quiet. Air turbulence can be reduced by noise-deadening materials, ducting, and removing sources of turbulence like fan grilles which also serve some positive purpose, so there are tradeoffs on that decision, also. You can add more fans and reduce their rpms to get a cumulative noise level that is lower. On the other hand, it is probably wise to be judicious and sparing in deploying fans. Larger fans move more air with less noise.

Nothing really, besides a fan controller which would help. (Trust me I have the Nexus 3.5 and it's great)

I agree,or you can get 120mm Panaflo + a fan controller.
