Interesting...looks like Monkey's Audio is more 'efficient' AND has a smaller file size than FLAC. 🙂 I made a good choice! 🙂

Hmm... I think FLAC has some other advantages, like possibly being able to be played on portable devices or something. I'm not sure. I haven't visited hydrogen audio in awhile.

One thing I know is that MAC isn't multiplatform - i.e. there's no way to listen to it in Linux. But for me, that's no problem.

Is there anything but BETA releases for EAC?

WMA? I guess you are looking to get flamed....... Then again, it is the #1 player now... M$ is suck.

SHUX
Why does it suck? It sounds great at lower bitrates than mp3 and even offers a lossless format? And I can just insert a cd and walk away, 5 minutes later, my music is ripped, tagged, organized, and album coverart is downloaded. And don't get me started on windows media 9 video files!

I was a huge fan of winamp until they released WA3, it sucks now.

😀
I use SAVECD
this works superfast and it's super cheap.

it costs around $11.00 and is under 5 meg.

just do a google search for savecd
or download.com

jam

EDIT - saveCD also will rip and encode and connect to the CD database to put the name/album/author/etc on the mp3's and it can rip and encode a full cd in about 3 minutes

I agree with you werk. WMP9 is a great program.

eac + razor lame.

Yep, the reason I don't use eac to encode is that I rip a bunch of CDs at a time, then que them all up to encode overnight.

In EAC Options, go to the Tools tab, and check the box that says "On extraction, start external compressors queued in the background", which will rip to WAV, and the encoding will queue up and the next will start once 1 is finished. I have done 20 CDs like this, and once I'd finished ripping the last one, i had about 50 tracks queued to be encoded, I walked away and it did them all 🙂

Really, you don't need any external programs when using EAC!

Confused

Its all open source/freebies for me when it comes to audio, so I've been using EAC for ripping WAVs and FLAC for compression. I like the idea of a complete WAV file if I ever want to decompress the FLAC file to place a mix onto CD or whatever portable player.
