:( So what are we all playing? I'm going through a big 'meh' period here, just playing CM4 & MarioKart64 multiplayer..

?

When's UT2k7 here? How soon until people realise the D3 engine is plasticky and shiny & horrid? Should i grab a 6800GS AGP & unlock/oc the hell out of it to replace my 6600GT?

All these questions, and more, brought to you by dug777 brand cornflakes ;)

"meh"...I could say that applies to me at the moment too :p

Recently I've finished Prey (which I thought was quite good), Tomb Raider Legend (also good), an old school singleplayer mod for UT...

I'm probably only halfway through HL2 Ep1 (you know I have a bad habit of leaving games for a long time, I didn't finish HL2 and FarCry until this spring :p)...I really like it so far, and I only paid $8 for it.

And where can I get these cornflakes?

i too am playing retro games as i have finished with the current crop and the replayability is, well, meh. Im playin Planetside pretty heavily and realizing its probably the only game SOE hasnnt fvcked up royally (ala SWG). I am also playing two of my favorite older RTS's, Impossible Creatures and Age of Mythology. I am playing Battle for Middle Earth 2 which is so much better than the first one its sick. As for your vid card question, i would vote no to upgrading to a 6800gs unless you absolutely CANNOT afford something at least one generation newer. The 6 series is really starting to show its age and a 7800 or x1800 would absolutely destroy it in newer games.

I've also been playing older games exclusively for the last couple of months, and recently pretty much only Freespace 2 (working on a mod for it that takes up most of my gaming time these days) and weekly Descent 2 multiplayer games with some guys on another forum. There are a couple of upcoming games I'm really looking forward to (Crysis, SCDA and UT2007), but they're still some time off.

IDK about yall, but I'm really looking forward to call of Juarez! But right now I'm working my @$$ off to beat Far Cry. MAN, that game is long as hell.

I still havent finished Farcry or FEAR. :Q But if you like strategy games, Civ4 would keep you occupied for a long time.

I just grabbed madden 07 (pc) and the new heroes of might and magic. the heroes game is pretty tedious but passes the time. 07 is alright but you NEED other people to play. the single player on that game is horrid. I just finished fear about 2 weeks ago and the ending pissed me off so I am angry at that game. Never got the expansions for Halflife2; the origional was so so for me. Civ 4 dried up a while ago.

To sum it up I NEED A GOOD RTS. For the love of all that is gaming someone please give me starcraft 2 and bring back origional westwood!

I jump around a lot. BF2, FEAR, COD2, Prey, HL2, and Splinter Cell: CT are what mainly occupy my week.

dug, if it starts with a 6, put it back on the shelf. A 7600GT would be a much more worthy purchase over a 6800GS.

HL2 EP1 was a great game for a while but not really gonna tide you over until UT2k7 or Crysis. I have been playing a lot of FM2006, Civ4 & Oblivion which are all good and quite time consuming. Call of Juarez does look like the next big thing before Crysis, UT2k7 etc are released.

I know, i know, but 7600GT AGP is waiii expensive here (330 AUD), whereas i could get a 6800GS AGP for ~240 AUD  7600GS is ~180AUD, but the RAM really holds back it's ocing potential...

I kinda thought if i could unlock a 6800GS to full GT/U pipes, with the faster RAM and say a Zalman vf700-cu, i'd be easily able to hit Ultra speeds...

I have to admit, i look longingly at the 7600GT AGP (And i know i'd get good money back selling it, 2nd hand high end AGP cards go for a mint here in Aus...)

I'm playing Oblivion and Battlefield 2 at the moment, but my Oblivion experience is sour at best as I can't get over my compulsive habitual re-rolling of character. :(

Currently replaying FEAR now that I've got a 7900GT @ GTX speeds.

Man, this game still gives me the creeps, but I love it. :D

Wrong Forum. . . . except for the GT>GS question. :p

First of ALL the D3 engine is AWESOME . . . it is far more capable than the Souce HL2 Engine:

Quake 4 is 'everything' Doom3 should have been

and

Black&White2 is a real Gem!

and these are just two recent threads i started in the 'right' forum. :p

and over 1,000 hours into Oblivion :Q

yeah . . . Dump the 6600gt :p

it'd give me the "mehs" anyday

:D

EDIT: Ep1 is Awful . . . 5 hours . . . for $19.99

more of HL2 - except you are stuck with ONE weapon for a long time
[you gotta like the GG . . . and Alyex] :p

i got it for $8.99 and still think it is a rip. OTOH, Q4 is Bargain Bin, has a REAL working flashlight [with working shadows, even] and is just more 'well-rounded' FPS. Check out my thread.

i know you may not like it . . . don't shoot the messenger . . . i speak the truth.

Source simply 'lacks' compared to the more capable engines . . . D3/Gamebyro . . . there is no real shadows and lighting.

that is not to say Source isn't great for older HW. ;)

BANG BANG BANG!

Actually, I really got a kick out of HL2: EP1 and enjoyed finishing it just a couple days. Also, the x850xt was able to rock it out 1440*900 with the full HDR goodness going with AA & AF.

I never finished Q4. IMHO, that is a totally different game than HL2, and they are both good in their own right.

Want some fun replay time on what can be an incredibly tough game? Check out SIN: EP1. Make sure you grab the alpha voice pack for more smack-talkin goodness. The difficulty engine on that game is what makes it shine, and that you need to get good with the weapons.

Last, Dug, did you play through pain killer? That was pretty awesome and will still look gorgeous on your hardware.

My $.02 :)

*And for the love of all that is holy, get a GC and some serious double-dash action going on. I know cart 64 is good, but GC is so much better!

Or better yet, get a DS and MKDS! I think that's much better than any other Mario Kart!
