I'm going to have my hair cut short-medium and need some hip hair styles. I only like my hair long (Beatles/Flash Gordon style), but I'm cutting it because my wife likes it that way so, since I don't care if its not long, I'd like something that is at least socially acceptable or something.

I googled, but everything seems pretty out of date referring to flat tops and stuff.
 
<- Short (clippers on the side, top to... like 1/2" -ish) or Bic'd (in the summer). My hair is thick, coarse and grows fvcking fast. Not sure what you'd call "short and messy"... or maybe that's all it's called.
 
It is hard to describe a "good" hair style for men... plus, it varies guy to guy because of your bone structure, face shape, etc... like jndietz said... go to a "hip" salon in your area and ask them what would work best for you
 
my secret tip is to find a gay hairstylist or female hairstylist who knows a lot about styles. gay hairstylist will know what you want. i had my hair cut by gay hairstylist and i was very impressed with what he did to my hair that i had wished for.

p.s. i'm clean and straight.
 
#2 guard or if you're under 25 then #1 guard. Shaving it off completely tends to leave most folks looking like chemo patients.
