So what are all the costs associated with owning a car?

AFAIK -

1. Monthly car payment
2. Insurance (monthly, bi-annually, or annually)
3. Property tax (annually)
4. Repairs
5. Gas
6. Regular maintenance (fluids like windshield wiper fluild, car washes, etc.)

Any others I'm missing out on?

property tax as in annual excise tax, most likely. And your #4 is a very large umbrella that should cover most of the incurred costs, except...

7. Annual emissions/safety inspection sticker

By property tax do you mean tabs/tags, or license plate renewals?

I don't know, I haven't owned a car for more than a year yet. I think in Connecticut you have to pay around $50 - $150 a year in property taxes for each car. I don't know if that's associated with plates or not.

in MA we have excise tax which meants that they charge you $25 per $1000 of the car. This year they got me for $300 on top of registration and inspection costs. Luckily they appraise your car for less than its really worth.

8.) Tires

To give you some ball park figures:
Total O/M cost for my 1988 brady wagon ~ $0.31/ mile
- includes gas
- no purchase cost included
- 8,000 miles/yr
- Annual emissions tune up is a significant portion of repair/maintenance
- Married male over 25

Total O/M cost for my 1986 Toyota 1/2 ton, 2WD ~ $0.24/mile
- includes gas
- no purchase cost included
- 10,000 miles/yr
- Annual emissions tune up is a significant portion of repair/maintenance
- Married male over 25

The figures are based on ~3 years of extremely anal cost tracking. With gas costs going up you could add maybe 15% to the above to determine current per mile cost.

registration fees every year

property tax is something different (some states dont have it). in VA you get charged a tax on a percentage of what your car is worth every year. this is on top of what you pay to have your car registered (ie license plate and tags)

some other miscellaneous stuff that may not apply to everyone:

tolls
monthly XM/Sirius radio fees
upgrades (stereo, wheels, etc)...
