I'm from Boston, but not really a baseball fan... just checking out the world series and see what all the hoopla is about. I kept hearing Dice-K's name nonstop when we acquired him, but now i hear Okajima is the better Japanese pitcher for the Red Sox now? Someone fill me in!

Well one came in with a ton of hype (Dice-K) and has gone between shakey and pretty good. The other came in with no hype (Okajima) and has been really solid as their setup guy for Papelbon.

Its not saying one is a "better pitcher" than the other as they fill different roles, but it is safe to say that Dice-K hasn't lived up to the hype yet, but he may one day.

Okajima has been more valuable this season, but Matsuzaka will be a very good major league pitcher. Next season, he's going to be dominant.

Oki is a pitcher that was average in Japan. I do not expect him next year to be able to put up the same kind of numbers that he did this past year. The league was able to adjust to him later in the year. His ERA increased considerably. He is facing the Rockies now, who he has never faced before, so he should have some success. Next year he should come back to earth.

On the other hand Matsuzaka is adjusting to a 4 days of rest, when he is usually used to 5. He should pitch BETTER next year.

It won't matter though. Hughes, Joba, and Kennedy are going to show the league something special.

His ERA did go up, but they used the hell out of him and just fatigued his arm.
After some much needed days off while we watched Eric Gagne self-destruct
he's back and getting everyone out again. Interesting if the yanks will turn
Chamberlin into a starter, he's got electric stuff..

From what I read, he just needed rest

He did retire 22 batters in the AL playoffs with a 0.00 ERA

Oki was worn out by the last month of the season. Francona did a great job resting him using that has been Eric Gange as the setup with terrible results. Luckily they had a large enough lead on the Stankees to be able to do it.

Another first round defeat (if they even make the playoffs)?
