I use it for some network stuffs. load balancers running LVS or pound. web servers/ file servers so on and so forth. I could use it as my desktop except I likes the playing of the games. It runs on my secondary desktop and is controlled via synergy so that I can monitor stuff, hold chats and conferences while shooting up the bad guys. I spend the lion's share of my time on the pc gaming so it's easier just to have some of the niceties on windows...like email, chat, etc since the monitors are right in front of me anyways.
personally, I think linux on the desktop would be more popular if windows piracy was curtailed.... but that's just me.
