What would you do?

Paid on Salary (not a very good one mind you, at least not compared to most of my friends who recently graduated).
Told I would work 9-5 (with a couple nights a little late, but not usually)

Nearly every day since i started a month ago ive worked 9-6, once a week 9-7. With no breaks, no lunch, no anything.

Tonight was the second time since i started i had to leave "early" as my boss put it.... It was 6:30pm and i had a sick puppy at home. He called me in his office and berated me for 20 minutes about how dissapointed he is with the fact that he cant "count on me".

I told him i would think it over tonight.

Im gonna give him my 2 weeks notice tomm....

Would you?

BTW, this is my first job since graduating college a month ago. Im in the process of applying for law school in the fall of 2004, so this job would have only been for a year anyway...

Can you get a better job? If you can, you should just quit and ask your friends to put in a good word for you.

It's usually best to find a new job before you burn the bridges on the old one.

That's against the law. I'm pretty sure you have to have at least 1 break for every 5 hours of work or something like that

Its not something that interests me in the slightest, and i wouldnt have stayed longer than 9-10 months anyway.

labor laws vary from state to state. For the most part mandatory breaks are only for minors unless you are talking about working 12+ hours.

Dont quit til you have another job lined up.

It's nice in Illinois.

5 hours gets you 15 minutes paid break time.

8 hours gets you 30 minutes unpaid AND 15 minutes paid break time. Also, the 30 minute break should come no later than 5 hours into the shift.

Required by law.

go to work do your job half assed..

when he fires you put in a formal complaint with the company an osha or whoever stating how you got no lunches or breaks and felt dizzy and faint in the afternoons and how he harrased you and berated you

you might complian about faint and dizziness here and there and maybe to your doc so as to leave a paper trail :p

The guy's taking advantage of you. You're better off elsewhere. There's scam in the man. Go to Odepot or something. At least you'll get a good deal on a intel chip and mobo.
