WTF! I've been sold an 8 MBit connection, but I frequently get 6MB/s+ from RapidShare. Sustained. :Q

Of that 500megabit is allowed to be used for random internet usage. So 500megabit.

Basically I can max my 100mbit ethernet connection to my workstation at will. So I get ~12000KByte/sec +/- a little (depending on the time of day) download speeds. The IT guy across the room who has a newer(gig-e) workstation, can get 55-60,000Kbyte/sec +/- a little (depending on the time of day).

No, I'm in a downtown location in the Chicago business district (loop). Level3 networks has multiple 10GigE connections coming into our building. We get 2Gig of that. And 100% of my company's business comes over those internet connections. And a damn lot of that is near-real-time data feeds, so we need friggin' bandwidth.

And yes it is difficult to find sites where a single TCPIP connection will allow that kind of transfer rate. But often times multiple connections do the trick. My pay NNTP servers, for example, I can hit 12000 without issue.

We're an ISP, so I know we have dual fibre backbones (one that is on full time, one that is a backup) that push up to 90 megabytes/sec, iirc.

Not sure - but I think it's about 8-10 MBit - for about 500 PCs.

If you try and use the internet during working hours, you're lucky if you're connection doesn't time out. Occasionally, if you're patient the page will load.

Using it out of hours is better, but it's certainly not 'fast'.
