So... Trump gets his second term, then drops dead. What then would a president Pence do?

I think Trump will probably win, horror show as that would be, but I doubt Donald Trump can physically survive his second term. Trump is over weight, looks bloated, and it wouldn't surprise me if Trump's health either kills him off or renders him unable to serve.
It's not that unusual for fat old white men to drop dead of heart attacks, strokes, or choking on chicken legs.
And especially fat old white men under a lot of stress. Queue Nancy Pelosi. Queue impeachment part two.

So, let's play the game of WHAT IF ???
When you play WHAT IF then you are not so shocked nor so caught off guard when the unthinkable becomes thinkable.
Like when an unsinkable ship, sinks. The Titanic.
If anyone would have imagined an unsinkable ship might actually sink, then more life boats would have been added.
If only one person in charge over construction of that unsinkable ship had played the game of WHAT IF, then maybe...

So here we go gamers....
President Mike Pence!
That would be an interesting transition worthy of WHAT IF-ing about.
President Mike would most likely adopt a very humbling attitude, at least and at first, over the death of Donald Trump.
And remember, Donald Trump also has his own family deeply involved within his administration. Running the show. Calling the shots. Fulfilling daddies agenda. I doubt a president Mike Pence would continue on with that Donald Trump agenda word for word and deed for deed. I'd give it three months before president Mike Pence suddenly realize he is now the president.
Mike as president would have the final say, and no longer some dead buried president Trump.
The same goes for the Trump children.
I really doubt that a president Mike Pence would care so much about THAT WALL, or care so much about continued revenge in the name of some deceased president.
I think a lot of that anger, self pity, getting even, hate and division mindset would come to an end under a new president Pence.

However, therein lies the problem.
THOSE DAMN TRUMP KIDS....
What do you do with THOSE DAMN TRUMP KIDS?
What does a president Mike Pence do with THOSE DAMN TRUMP KIDS having been so entwined within daddies government?
THOSE DAMN TRUMP KIDS so determined in promoting daddies agenda?
Would a huge transitional war ensue between new president Mike Pence and THOSE DAMN TRUMP KIDS, THOSE DAMN TRUMP SUPPORTERS, THAT DAMN TRUMP WALL, and.... THAT DAMN TRUMP REVENGE?
Trump children unwilling to give up?
Trump supporters expecting Pence to morph into Trump?
If president Pence put THAT WALL on the back burner, which I think he absolutely would do, and chose to engage in forgiveness rather than to engage in revenge especially dead president revenge, then president Pence would certainly piss-off those Trump fans.
Piss-off those damn Trump children.
And I doubt the republican senate would be so accepting of a president Mike Pence when Mike begins dismantling the Trump agenda.

And what about the economy?
Would a president Pence be so giving to that super wealthy top one percent? Or to Wall Street? Or to billionaire CEO's?
When Donald Trump drops dead from clogged arteries during his second term, it will be interesting to watch that Trump to Pence transition. And you know those damn Trump kids would never just sit back and watch as their daddies dream of WALL's, hate, division, and revenge falls apart.
It will be interesting when president Mike Pence wakes up to take charge.
Like in that Hitchcock movie REBECCA when the new Mrs de Winter reminds the maid of deceased Mrs de Winter "I AM MRS DE WINTER NOW". Grrrrrrr. :grimacing:
President Mike Pence: "IVANKA, GET RID OF ALL THESE TRUMP THINGS."
Ivanka Trump: "MR PENCE, THESE ARE MY DADDIES THINGS."
President Mike Pence: "I AM YOUR DADDY NOW."

So.....
I believe Trump will win but it won't matter.
Donald Trump will drop dead and not survive his second term. His neglected health will have the final say.
Clogged arteries will do what Nancy Pelosi couldn't do.
The Trump children will simply freak as revenge is forgiven, WALL's tumble, and hate is replaced with loving open arms.
Remember, at the state of the union address Donald Trump would not shake the hand of Nancy Pelosi, but Mike Pence did.
That should tell you a lot.
All of the Trump past, ALL OF IT including circle-jerks with Vladimir Putin and love letters to Kim Jong will come to an end under a president Mike Pence.
And THAT is my WHAT IF conclusion.
IVANKA, I AM THE PRESIDENT NOW, president Mike Pence will say.
GET ALL OF THESE TRUMP THINGS OUT OF HERE. Grrrrrrr. :grimacing:

He should put on a pair of Vampire teeth and start bitting people.

Deal with things as they come along and quit lighting your hair on fire because it takes away from the seriousness of what is to come.

Eh .. with current advances in medicine, if he gets reelected I guarantee that he will last the duration ... in some form...

This isn't a good look- it's as bad as when people claimed that Hilary was at death's door in 2018.

It'd be at once better and worse... and possibly leaning more toward worse.

You wouldn't have an idiotic, impulsive narcissist running the country like a mob boss, so that's good. He might pick cabinet members based on competence rather than slavish loyalty. Pence doesn't have the cult of personality that Trump does; I'm sure some would still be devoted to him, but he couldn't get away with running endless self-congratulatory rallies and might have a hard time pulling off Trump's ability to lie without remorse or consequence.

There are two main problems with Pence. To start, he has some of the maliciousness and ignorance of Trump but isn't held back by Trump's gross incompetence. Imagine someone who pushes for one-party rule but is intelligent enough to pursue it in subtler ways.

And of course, Pence is not only a religious conservative, he's that neurotic kind of religious conservative who genuinely wants theocracy and takes delight in making others suffer. He would likely make it his mission to overturn Roe v. Wade, and the anti-LGBT policies of the Trump administration could easily get worse. I don't think he'd last more than one term, but that term could be rough for anyone who isn't a straight Christian male (and one with archaic views on sexuality, at that).

I'm surprised Trump hasn't fired Pence yet. I think he's the only cabinet member to survive the first 3 years.

because he can’t. VP is an elected office.
he can ask him to resign so the President could choose a new VP but that is all.

Pence would then just be a good Republican. Far lower profile than the tweeter in chief.

I can't help but wonder if Trump dying would break a spell of sorts. Again, I'm sure Pence would get the mindless devotion of many Republican supporters, but those people who were ostensibly moderate before but easily swayed by demagogues might be set adrift.

On that note: I still find it fascinating how some Trump supporters in 2016 were actually Sanders supporters until Bernie lost the primary. They had this half-baked political ideology where they wanted to smash the system, but didn't care what the replacement was. And if you pointed out to them that Sanders and Trump are polar opposites, they'd just give you a dumbfounded look.

The first thing he'd do is to nominate a new vice-president and then increase his Secret Service protection. No one want to be the person standing between a Democrat and the Presidency (Pelosi is next in line).

Which is pretty much why Bloomberg would never name Hillary as his vice-presidential choice.

I think Pence would be worse for the country than Trump. He might talk nicer and not tweet such mean things, but he would be even more aggressive in terms of persecuting minorities and pushing Christianity as the national religion. And he's a little more with it mentally.

I imagine things differently.
The death of Donald Trump would be a sobering event for Mike Pence. I wonder if VP Pence has really pondered the possibly of assuming the presidency under such tragic circumstances? (Tragic for him)
Would Pence continue on with business as usual allowing the Trump children to call the shots? Or would a president Pence have his own ideas?

Lets face it, if America is to ever heal form this current president and heal from the division he has caused and from the hate he has encouraged then I think that healing process needs to come from within the republican party.
The republican party is whats broken. No outsider can heal this current republican party with the state of mind this party is in. No newly elected democratic president is going to heal a republican party or bring together a nation so torn apart.
Not a Bernie Sanders, not a Mike Bloomberg, and not a Joe Biden. Democrats would feel good if a democrat was elected president in November, but for the republicans nothing would change at all and the hate and the division would only worsen.

I can't stand Mike Pence but....
I really believe he and only he as president could begin the healing process of a very broken republican party. A healing process began from within and only from within. I think Mike Pence could do that, or start the process going. Sure, Pence would need to set aside some of his own craziness and imperfections, but for the sake of the nation and the party I think Pence could and would do that. Remember, Mike Pence is still respected for the most part by many democrats. I have no doubt that a Nancy Pelosi could find common ground and common respect with a president Mike Pence. Democrats would be upset that they lost the election but with Mike Pence in charge just maybe most democrats could see a light at the end of the tunnel. The fate of the nation would not seem so dismal as when under a president Donald Trump.
I think America could live with a president Pence. I think a democratic party could find common ground and renewed respect towards Trump republicans under a president Mike Pence. And I think that is the only way this republican party can survive itself.
Thats all. We can move on.

Well he’d be more respected by other heads of state. Not by much, but at least won’t be a laughing stock anymore.

It seems to me it's those folks behind the throne with their fat stuffed wallets and deep connections within the GOP netherworld that really matter as far as what direction Pence takes. He can say whatever he wants as if he's "The Decider" in all things but he is much more under the influence of "the establishment" aka the RNC and its powerful backers than Trump ever was or will be what with Pence's long history within the apparatus he's been a part of.
