As many of you know, I have resigned from my position. Today is my last day so at this point I'm really just waiting for 5:00 to roll around.

Yesterday we had layoffs (second time in the year and a half I've worked here). I'm disappointed that I'll be leaving several close friends behind me, but MAN am I glad to have this dark chapter behind me. Working here has been the most depressing period of my life. There's too many reasons to cite just one, but there is so much mistrust between management and the worker bees. On a regular basis I've watched people comprimise their character and integrity in the name of political maneuvering. Of course we all "play the game" to a certain extent, but the degree of backstabbing and two-faced-ness here is enough to cause one to question humanity. I haven't been a victim of it, but it's still depressing as hell. In fact, I'd like to think that I made a few personal/career sacrifices at this job so I could help a few people out... I'm happy that I can walk away feeling like that.

Can't you just bump the old thread or do you require that much attention?

so did your boss use his contacts to get your new company to allow you to extend your time at your current job?

Same position in a different industry. In fact, this next position has a lot of growth opportunity. I'm a Team Lead / Systems Architect, but I've always wondered if I'd enjoy other avenues (DBA, etc.)... this next opportunity will give me those kinds of options.

THANKFULLY, he came in Monday with a much clearer head. We had a pretty long chat and he apologized and said he realized how absurd those ideas were.

I did give the recruiter a heads-up last Friday, though, just in case...

where did you work at?

I'd rather not say, but I'd be amazed if anyone here has heard of the company... unless you work in local (county) government in the midwest or on the east coast.........

Congrats. I'm actually planing on giving in my two week notice in about 20 minutes... kind of nervous.

take the stapler with you and tell your boss to move his/her office to the basement.

Yeah, despite how much of a twist I've been in for the last 18 months, I was on the brink of severing two very long, important relationships. I may think that the VP and P are nitwits, but they have contributed a lot to my career and our paths could easily cross again down the road.

Let us know how it goes... resignation stories are always interesting simply due to their volatile nature.

At least you know what to expect, if they do. :)
