So this idiot backed into me yesterday...

Ok I was driving through this parking lot which leads to an intersection with a light to turn onto the main road. Right before the light is a 4-way stop intersection in the parking lot. I must mention that crazy blind people drive through this parking lot all the time as it is by a supermarket.

So I'm just headed straight to the 4-way stop, and this guy in a white toyota flanks me from the right, comes in from somwhere and cuts me off. I'm thinking this guy is the usual praking lot prick, and I don't think he even looked my way. I'm thinking to myself, he better have saw me, because if he didn't, he shouldn't be on the road.

So I get to this 4-way stop, he stops in front of me. There is not another car near the intersection. I stop maybe 2 feet behind him. I'm turning right to go to the light, so is he (I find out later, his blinker was not on). He looks left, then right. Then I am shocked as his reverse lights come on! In that instant I wonder why would he back up? In anycase, he hits the gas, and slams his rear bumper into mine.

Now, I drive a '91 volvo 240 wagon, that weighs well over 3000lbs, my car is mostly steel, but the bumper is alluminum attached to steel posts. (I know cuz one broke on my older wagon and i couldn't weld it). He bumps into me, rattles my car, and I just give him the biggest WTF?!?!?! I can.

As he drives away I see his plastic cover for the bumper is cracked where he hit me, I see this nice long black line. When I got home and checked my car, no visible damage whatsoever.

Kiddies should pay attention when playing with their toys.

My friend used to drive a 70s era volvo ('78 I think it was). I made a comment once about it being unsafe and his words to me were:
"It's a '78 Volvo! The only cars that could hurt us are Humvees and older Volvos!"

What kind of Toyota was it?

I think it was a corolla. Something small and weak. I guess toyota does have cars for everyone, even blind drivers ed students.

Jzero: I beg to differ, '70s GM trucks were pretty damned beefy. A friend of mine went and plowed into a concrete guard rail on a small bridge. (went around a corner too fast) He drove home. Called it a minor loss. It'd probably take out the Volvo. Might end in a draw if it were a 2WD pickup though.

uh why didn't you get his licence plate so you can get him for hit and run?

Huh? How does that work? Yes, officer, look at all the damage that crazy guy did to my car! I swear he hit me and I wanna sue!

The plastic shell of my bumper wasn't even knicked.

ironically, volvo wagons weigh less than honda accord wagons from the same vintage. but man, get inside and drive them, and you sure wouldn't know. the volvo feels like it weighs 10 tons, while the accord feels pretty light and nimble (other than the brakes, volvos stopped much quicker). regardless of weight, there's no place i'd rather be in an accident than a volvo 240 wagon. it's not just that they are sturdy, but they have the best mix of crumple zones with battering ram passenger cages, plus lots of distance between the passengers and any point of impact. i think when my mom was shopping for a volvo in 91, the dealer mentioned that in the last national highway safety study, NO ONE died in a 240. of course 240 drivers aren't street racing or anything, but still. they run forever if properly maintained, too.

Seems kind of lucky that you didn't suffer any damage to your car with this hit and run. What if he actually did damage your car? You wouldn't be posting here gloating now would you.
