what is a pilot's "cockpit"
The cockpit is where the pilot is in the plane when he flies it.

Edit: I should note that most planes have cockpits.

I just want to know if it is AT ALL POSSIBLE or if I should go right back and tell her it is not possible

one or two of you said you have to be 18, but I wasn't sure if that was just in most circumstances or if that is a hard rule for everybody
>>clarify?

Read the fvcking posts. The second one is a quote from the US Dept. of Labor and says

applicants MUST be at least 18 years old and have at least 250 hours of flight experience.

And thats to simply have a pilots license. If you read further, it shows you have to be 23 and have a min of 1500 hours to even APPLY as a COMMERCIAL PILOT. And trust me, you won't be getting a job with 1500 hours if my friend didn't even make it past the first interviews with around 1800 hours.

The 18 years thing would be a hard rule. Kind of how you have to be 16 to drive a car by yourself is a hard rule. It doesn't matter if your parents have been putting you behind the wheel of a vehicle since you were 10, you can't get your driving license until you're 16.

Airlines require an ATP rating to fly.
This takes more than a few hours in the cockpit. They also require lots of hours in turbines(>1000). Something a 17 year old doesnt usually get exposure to.

Finally, I dont see an airline entrusting a multi-million dollar aircraft and its passengers(potential lawsuits) to a 17 year old.

Edit: And it appears you have to be 18 to get a commercial and ATP rating.

the major airlines generally require an ATP. you can get away with a commercial license if you're flying for a regional.

Dude, she lied to you. That's no basis for a healthy relationship. Better break up with her and commence YAGT: Ditched girl for shens, now lonely and still no sense of humor

US Air is a US carrier. As all the other notes, there is no way they are going to hire a girl in India to fly for them when they have a queue of guys with 10000 hrs on their ATP ticket standing around. Even for the commuter division

//work for another US carrier.

Edit - even if she were Chuck Yeager's love child, no US carrier is going to break the law to hire her. Run away, don't walk away from that girl. Bet she doesn't even know USAir's colors (Silver, red, white, and black are primary on their ships).

Definately not! I'm 17 and am at this time only eligible for a private pilot license due to my age.
