So they say my little cousin has ADD...

She's freakin 7 years old!!! How the hell can they make that judgement already?!

Okay first off, I do not care to dispute the existence of this disorder (I honestly don't know enough about it to make a decision.) I just think it's absurd that they say a freakin 7 year old child has it, and to put her on medication at this point in life.

The reason they say this is becasue she isn't paying attention in class, and is behaving poorly at times (i.e. she doesn't do her work in class sometimes, etc.). Now those are some sure signs.

Man, at that age you're young and reckless, and still learning.

I have babysitted her (no more than 6 months ago) for about a week straight, and several other days here and there throughout the past. Granted, I do not see her on a normaly daily basis, or in school, she seems perfectly fine. She had no problems paying attention to Harry Potter when I took her to watch that or playing Super Smash Brothers Melee.

IMO she definitely does not have attention deficit, but rather that she is just looking for attention. She has a younger brother who gets much more attention, and she always gets in trouble because of him. Thus, she feels that her parents love her brother more, and don't like her. (I know becaus she has told me so.) But it's not like I can go tell my Uncle/Aunt how to raise their kids, being only 21 myself and the bad child of the family also...

Don't put her on meds. All it will do is alter her body's chemistry down the road. My friend's mother put all her kids on it from a very young age. Now in their 20s, they're all really hyper when they don't take their ADD medicine. And they have to take larger doses....since their bodies built up a tolerance.

It's just garbage. Total garbage. Crappy doctoring for $$$'s.

Exactly my thoughts. There are some real idiots out there. Kids will be kids, deal with it, don't medicate it.
