It knows a sucker when it sees one.

You could put a bowl of tuna or something if you're that concerned. It might come by and munch, or it might just go on its way.

Mean while, I'm going to try to find some meat. Do I just plop it on the ground or put it on a paper plate or what?

Open a can of tuna, remove lid, leave can on ground. Bowl of wter would be nice as well.

If you really feel nice, buy the kitty some dry food next time you are at the grocery store. $5 will get you a 2-week supply or more. MeowMix is the tasty!

pretty much. If you just have meat...a plate would be nice, but I suspect the cat'd be happy anyway.

If you feed it then it will never go away, hope you want a new cat.

My very small concrete porch has become a home for a family of strays. A momma, a papa, and 2 kittens, just getting off her milk. I guess they like it because it's got a bush right next to it, giving them a good place to hide in case of predators/people come for them. The also like sitting next to the porch on the ground, or a couple of feet over on the sidewalk. I own two cats, who like looking at the window at them. I've started putting out a towel to sleep on, as well as bowels of food and water everyday. I don't want the poor kitties starving :( I've called a local animal shelter last week about using some humane traps so they can be put in a good home. I don't know about the papa, but momma, while still skittish, she's willing to let people get within 5 feet of her before backing off another 3-4 feet.

That was my first though...would it be a good move to call animal control or something? If it had a collar on it I would have invited it into my house...

Wouldn't do that b/c if animal control in your city is full then they will kill it after a few days if nobody adopts. Let the little guy enjoy his freedom if he isn't causing any trouble.

He asked his cat, duh.

Don't call animal control unless the cat is aggressive or is destroying things. If your neighbors have a problem with a stray, here's a simple solution: Tell them you own the cat.
