So the US will ban ephedra, but not cigarettes? Phhtt.....

Another example of how our government does NOT work correctly sometimes. They ban ephedra. Ok, I'm cool with that. It causes heart attacks and deaths. What else is VERY well known to cause cancer and many many many more deaths than ephedra? Yes, cigarettes. Yet, because of the almighty tax dollar, they (i.e. the government) refuse to do anything more than ban advertisements for tobacco products.

I am one of those people that prefers to let people do what they want, but if the government wants to step in on something they think is 'right' for the public, they need to do it on a bit larger scale. :|

same goes for booze. that's why it makes no sense to keep pot illegal. They could really cash in on that.

Yes, and the big drug companies don't like when over-the-counter stuff like ephedra cuts into their profits.

It wasn't banned for any health reasons, it was pure brute force by the Pharmaceutical industry.

Exactly. It's very sad, I can relate so many different problems to Pharmaceuticals.

Yeah, really.

All the news articles ive read have quoted FDA statistics like "ephedra has been linked to ~150 deaths."

Oh sh!t, 150 deaths??? Well geez, thats a whole lot worse than alchohol and tobacco. They only kill ~500,000 people a year.

The problem is those few fat people who chug half a bottle of ephedra, chase it with some caffeine, and then go run around in 100 degree heat. They die (and rightfully so, for being that stupid), and ephedra takes the blame. All in the name of politicians desperately trying to attribute their names to something that "protects the people."

wrong buddy. the govt is "telling you" that is the reason when in reality. they are trying to "dry up" the supply of ephedra to keep the "meth cooks" from making meth. so what we really have is the govt taking away the rights of people who use this HERB legally because of ID10T'S who want to make quick money by manufacturing/selling dope, which by the way is ALREADY ILLEGAL judt goes to show you how well the "war on drugs" is working and how the govt tramples on law abiding citizen's rights :disgust:

Well, 150 deaths...but also 16,000 complains sent into the FDA from people who have taken it.

Well, they can also make it with sudafed. But the FDA is soon going to crank up the restrictions on sudafed making it more difficult to aquire.
